Great place for cocktails

I stopped here with my cousin for drinks. We didn't order any food, but the cocktails were fantastic. We ordered the first round off of the menu, but the next three rounds were drink that the bartenders created for us. Each one was delicious! We really enjoyed our evening here.

Let me start by stating I sat at the bar, as sometimes bar service can be different to wait service at other sections of the restaurant. I had a great meal here and Brandon, one of my bartenders was friendly and non intrusive at the same time. His coworker was equally as accomplished. The food was good, Crudo and Rabbit... More

I was ripped off by Gitane Restaurant. The reviews I read in advance were good so I looked forward to an evening with ten colleagues at Gitane. And the evening started well, the food very good and the service casual and amusing. Then our waiter disappeared - for almost an hour - while our wine glasses sat empty, our dirty... More

Located on the alley street , Claude Lane. In between Union Square and the financial district. Up beat bar, great mixologists! The restaurant is upstairs, very fun decor, funky gypsy. We love the bacon wrapped prunes ( Bon bons) Fish dishes and pancetta -wrapped Rabbit really good. Good wine choices to pair with all the flavors of their menu. Fun... More

San Francisco is my home town I live in LA now but come often to visit friends. We always want to try a place with great food and ambiance...,..Gitane seemed like the perfect choice. The website made this place look so cool....my party of 8 foodies couldn't wait. We were told that for such a large party the only place... More

We ate here for a special night out. The service was amazing. Very friendly staff with great recommendations. We loved this restaurant because it had items that aren't on your typical American restaurant. I had the short ribs and my husband had the rabbit and we were not disappointed. It is a little pricey but I knew that going in... More

My wife and two daughters (23, 19) dined here on a Saturday night in December, and loved this place. I loved the "vibe" -- you enter via an alley way, it's got the whole gypsy lighting/music thing going, it's small and quaint, etc. And even though it was a busy Sat night, (1) our table was ready for us right... A restaurant with French cuisine foundations accentuated by Italian and Andalucian inspired flourishes, offered in a dark sumptuous maximalist setting hidden in a small side street in SF that I had walked passed until recently when a SF local friend invited us. I had as an appetizer the pissaladiere, a niçoise olive and shallot confit served on a flattened wood... More

Gitane Restaurant & Bar Tuesday evening, nice-looking bar area, upstairs dining. Bring a light to read the menu. I chose the Persimmon salad & server Phil selected a glass of Chenin Blanc Margelleau Vouvray Sec, 2012. The Meyer lemon vinaigrette provides a lovely lift to the pomeganate & arugula, Petaluma goat cheese is very creamy. Vouvray Sec is Excellent with... More

Worth the find! Off the beaten path, neat little place with great bar and upstairs restaurant. Menu was a bit unusual and upscale. So worth exploring once you find it!
