a bit more authentic than your typical american cookie cutter thai restaurants as they feature dishes like larb that you won't often find outside of SE Asia. I was a little disappointed that the keffir lime features they advertise were actually made with regular lime. still not a bad place to stop into as the prices are reasonable.

Enjoyed a nice meal at Basil Canteen. The food was good although it could have been spicier. The service was friendly & efficient and the wine was half price for a bottle - you can't beat that!!

I ate dinner at Basil Canteen tonight with my wife. The staff is very friendly and helped us with our questions about the menue. We started the evening with fresh Oysters for $1 a piece (every thursday). From 5-7 pm it's Happy hour with cheep cocktails, Thai beers and different starters. We picked the spring-rolls and the satay sticks. It... More

On a Sunday following my daughter's wedding, this was one of the few restaurants that had a table for 10. The menu is extensive, and everything we ordered--which was a lot--was delicious. The restaurant was packed, but our server was very attentive and always available for additional orders. I would recommend eating here.

Luckily we looked on Open Table as well as Trip Advisor. None of the Thai restaurants which were higher rated on Trip Advisor turned me on when I read all the critiques in detail. Very pleasant and attentive staff, creative space (converted old warehouse), spacious, not too noisy. The food was delicious, flavorful, creative (eg: shrimp & pumpkin curry), authentic,... More

This is a higher end Thai joint with large tables for communal seating. The atmosphere is great with high ceilings in an old warehouse-type space. Menu items are creative.

Can't say enough positive things about Basil Canteen. Fun atmosphere, amazing food and great staff come together to make this the best Thai food in town. Be sure to check out the happy hour where the cocktails are only $6 and many of the appetizers are $5. You could make a whole meal but the yellow curry is not to... More

I come from NYC where there are practically two Thai restaurants per block in Chelsea and Hell's Kitchen. They are mostly good, but Basil Canteen was delicious and every dish was prepared differently than I had seen before. I highly recommend this restaurant. Plus the decor was cool and the prices not bad. I would easily go back!

We stumbled upon this restaurant while wandering around at lunch time. It is near Rainbow Grocery (which is well worth a trip too). The restaurant is immaculate and attractive and the food was very fresh and delicious. We had the larb chicken and a beef and noodle dish, both of which were delightful. We highly recommend Basil Canteen!
