The food was uniquely prepared at a reasonable price; the staff was friendly, offered suggestions described the food to assist us with ordering and did not rush us

La Mar is a top notch restaurant that truly deserves equal service. Bar tenders are great and attentive, but our food server had no idea on when to approach our table, interrupting our conversation with our guests on numerous occasions. At one point, I asked to see the wine list and while I was talking he came from behind me... More

During our walking-tour through downtown San Francisco we stopped at LA MAR for some lunch. Since we're not specialists for Peruvian food we asked the manager what to order. We had the Classic Cebiche, the Causa sampler and some wok fried beef. The food was very good, especially the causa sampler was very interesting. Locations is prime and we were... More

Stopped by LaMar for a quick bite and was seated in the bar which serves the full menu. Tried a couple of the ceviche selections and a quinoa salad. The ceviche was authentic ~ made us think we were in Lima. Made dinner reservations for a return visit during our San Fran stay. Pricey but worth it.

Food was really good but slightly pricey for the end result - perhaps one pays for the ambience (young and hip, leading to the noise factor) and/or the view and setting (by the Bay) - but the food was stylish, tasty, imaginative and the overall effect was, while I couldn't call it pleasant, engaging. I would come back and I... More

If you are going to experience Peruvian food / coctails for the first time, then this is the perfect place to make this experience a memorable one. The place is right at the sea front giving it an added value. The skilled bartenders welcome you with some Peruvian coctails which is must to try. Also the ceviches are a must... More

My husband, a good friend, and I had lunch today at La Mar. What a fabulous location along the SF Bay and very close to the Ferry Building. We chose to dine outside - a warm, sunny yet breezy day. However, for being an outside venue, it was still somewhat noisy due to ongoing nearby maintenance work/construction/etc. I would have... More

Went to this restaurant because of recommendation at my hotel. Fresh fish, but much to be desired about the service. We had a server who was talking so much, but missing orders right and left. We did have a large group, but what was disappointing was his attitude. He seemed stressed out or so something. Food was acceptable, but pricy.... More

The reference to Puruvian food is a stretch. Some flavors and some dishes but not many. Went for dinner on a Thursday night. Service was very slow. No coordination between wait staff and bus boys. Timing of kitchen is strange - some courses came out quickly while other simpler dishes were very slow in coming out. Had to search for... More
