Food is great, it is on the water but the restaurant is big and bustling

My wife and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary (30 years) and this is her favorite restaurant. To be honest, I had eaten here only once before (at a business lunch) and was underwhelmed by the food, but happy wife/happy life this is where we ate to celebrate. We were visiting our friend in San Fran and someone suggested this restaurant to him. The food was amazing and the signature drink was delicious!

We arrived on an unusually busy Friday night but were able to secure a table by the window with our reservation. We sat down and started looking at the drinks menu and immediately we felt like we were being rushed. We ordered our drinks and started looking for a couple of appetizers to share and entrees for dinner. Throughout dinner,... More

La Mar serves unique, tasty, and beautiful food in a great setting. If you like your food a little spicy, and need a change of pace this Peruvian restaurant on The Embarcadero is a great place to go. The cebiches are great, but if you're not a seafood lover there are plenty of good meat or vegetarian options. Our group... More

So glad we chose here and ignored the not so glowing feedback. Ceviche was so tasty we had the sampler followed by a couple of mains and some wine Service was superb and the menu very carefully explained and recommendations made as it was our first time Great ambiance and lovely setting

We had a group dinner. The meal and atmosphere were fantastic. I loved the ceviche. The short rib was tender and easily pulled apart. It was my first time at a Peruvian restaurant and I had too try the local beer. Excellent experience

I had the chance to visit Peru (Lima) in June and my buddies kept saying that I had to try this restaurant especially since I had never had ceviche; needless to say they were right and the entire experience led me to visit the restaurant on 3/5 days. Fast forward a couple of months and I find that they have... More

Second visit and really good quality food. Ceviche was excellent and main courses of salmon and the pasta dish with shrimp and scallops was also excellent. It lacks a fine dining feel but overall is a great place for this type of food and of course as with all San Francisco restaurants it is expensive. Good wine list by the... More

I tried just about every type of dish on the menu hoping there was something I would like but I was at a loss; I even went and tried some of the dessert menu but everything tasted terrible. I was told by the waitstaff that many things are an 'acquired taste' and I suppose that may be true. The service... More

The food is supergood! The ceviches are extremely fresh and very tasty and surprising! Great wines, great service! I would almost want to fly back from Amsterdam to San Francisco for this great restaurant!
