A must when in San Fran!!

The hostess was a mess - very unhelpful and rude, but the service and food far made up for her initial hostility. The lamb vindaloo was absolutely phenomenal.

This restaurant was right outside the door of our marriott marquis. We were supposed to go to the Press club, but they screwed up the res so badly we said screw it and went to his place instead. I had never been to a high end Indian restauant before this. The service was outstanding! The wine bottles were reasonably priced.... More

I was here last Friday night with 3 others and we had an incredible experience. This is the best Indian food I have had in SF thus far. We arrived at 8:00 (right on time for our reservation) and the hostess allowed us to have a drink first so we appreciated the flexibility. The cocktails were great! We sat down... More

This place is a bit pricey for an indian restaurant but they make it up by serving high quality food. Went here for the lunch buffet and left more than satisfied. The only problem was that the buffet ran out food all the time and they didn't restock it fast enough. Would probably come back again!

Ambience is alright. Service hurried; staff a bit in a rush. Food ok. Comes quick - likely all pre-cooked; just last minute plating. Pricey for what it really offers.

Delicious and flavorful upscale Indian food in a nice atmosphere. The tandoori chicken was amazing. Moist, juicy and so many layers of flavor. The naan was warm and fresh--lightly crunchy with a nice chewiness to it. The cheese dumplings for dessert were incredible. The waiter told us it is a traditional dessert. This was my first time ever trying them... More

Amber is a place that you go without worrying about what you'll eat. They have variety and they have quality of food. Service is great and everything is finger licking. I travel to SFO every year for a technical conference and I have ensured that I always eat at Amber atleast once - even if I have to avoid going... More

A friend and I had drinks and dinner there last evening. The atmosphere was not your typical Indian restaurant - it could have been any upscale contemporary restaurant with any type of cuisine. The menu was just a slight shift from The classic Indian fate so I didn't feel "been there / done that" but yet I did see some... More

Amber India creates dishes not seen in your typical Indian restaurant. Every item has its own distinct spices and flavors which transform the food into something on a whole different level. The butter chicken, for example, tasted like "butter chicken," but with an added hint of something that made it so unique and better than any other recipe we've experienced... More

Staying in SoMa

Neighborhood Profile
SoMa
South of Market (SoMa), has an urban and sophisticated vibe, but you're more likely to find big nightclubs and lots of industrial loft residences than you are to find boutique shopping. Although it’s the epicenter for tech startups in the city, visitors will be able to do more than just business - museums, top quality restaurants, and the San Francisco Giants now call this neighborhood home. Most of its freeway-sized streets may not capture the same character as other neighborhoods in the city, but pockets of charm, like South Park, can still be found throughout its side streets.
