Took a chance, and I was not disappointed

I checked out reviews for "the best breakfast place", which pointed me to a place called Mama's. We went here for breakfast on recommendation from our hotel. Great variety, omelettes, burrittos, toast, eggs etc. Nice atmosphere - lots of pictures of San Fran in the 60s etc around. Friendly service. We recommend the pancakes!

Looks like mom and pop cafe but good and employees are nice and friendly. When I steped in it seems not luxury but clean and organized all. Its located gateway of San Francisco famous cable car turn around. You can catch cable car 20-300 yard away. This was our go-to restaurant for breakfast. We ate at Pat's Cafe several times during our stay. The food was good and reasonably priced. Never had to wait for a table.

The waitress was very slow. We ordered drinks and it took her quite awhile to get them to us. My daughter and I ordered, but my wife wasn't ready yet and asked if she could just bring our drinks and she would be ready then. The waitress looked a bit perturbed that she wasn't ready as she went to get... More

We came across Pat's Cafe while just walking around near our hotel. The staff was extremely friendly and the atmosphere was very welcoming. We decided to stay for breakfast. The mimosas were wonderful and the nutella crepes were probably the best I've ever had. Compared to other places we ate at while on our trip, this was not as expensive... More

We ran into this place by coincidence when walking around in Fishersman Wharf. They offer a great variety and all we have ordered tasted very good. However it took them about 45 minutes to get it onto our tables.

Staying in North Beach / Telegraph Hill

Neighborhood Profile
North Beach / Telegraph Hill
The aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans, the sounds of opera, and the sights of the romantic Italian ristorante come together to create the charming neighborhood of North Beach, once the stomping grounds for the Beatnik Generation. Although parts of North Beach are known for nightlife that’s not always suitable for younger visitors, few neighborhoods in the city exude as much European charm and style. Peruse a bookstore for the literature of Kerouac, Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg, grab some gelato and head to Washington Square for a perfect afternoon of people watching. Just east of North Beach, the hills and staircases of Telegraph Hill are a unique delight. At its peak, the art deco Coit Tower provides sweeping panoramic views of the bay and city. The beautifully landscaped Filbert Street Steps, a street too steep for a roadway, rewards those willing to hike uphill. Keep your ears open and you might even hear the squawk of the wild parrots who call this neighborhood home.
