Whilst the place is named a 'Public House' it was more like a restaurant, as the bar area is relatively small. However, this is no bad thing, as there are a variety of eating rooms as well as a pleasant outside courtyard. After a few drinks, we opted to eat outside, which proved a good choice - an added bonus... More

McKays is 1 of our favorite "go to" destinations. The menu is varied, lots of great apps, small plates & entrees. Whatever food mood you are in, they can accommodate. We had a lovely server, we had a couple of wine questions & she was knowledgeable & gave us a taste of both so we could decide. The owner, Brian... More

I have eaten here nights that were great and some that were less than great. Most of the time, good food and service.

Went with my wife for a nice romantic dinner. Good food, atmosphere, and service overall but a couple noticeable wrinkles. For starters, I ordered the steak medium rare but it came back waaaaay too rare. I'd suggest nothing more rare than "medium". Also I ordered the blueberry pie for dessert but it seemed microwaved. My wife also wasn't a big... More

Our innkeeper recommended McKay's , as it is one of their favorite places to dine, and we were so happy. It was an excellent meal and just as it should be. It had great food, and wonderful service and the dining rooms are nicely laid out. The menu has everything on it, from nice fresh dinners to burgers. It also... More

We expected a pub. We found a real restaurant. Cozy small rooms, excellent food, terrific servers. Next to the Grand Hotel, which is where we always stay. Reservations a good idea in the busy season.

My husband and I recently returned from our honeymoon in Bar Harbor. We were so lucky that we got a chance to eat at McKay's before they closed for November. The restaurant is in an old house, giving it a wonderful atmosphere. The room we sat in was candlelit, with a crackling fireplace. The service was great! We both had... More

We had eaten there several years ago and it was as great as we remembered. The atmosphere was very cozy and everyone there seemed to be enjoying their meal. Our food was great and service was awesome.

We ate dinner at McKay's on our last night of a 4 night stay in Bar Harbor in September after a day of hiking. We were drawn by the atmosphere and the look of the place. We were quickly seated outside near a heater. There was a chill in the air and the heater's helped. We had a very pleasant... More
