Old school charm

After a casual dinner the night before, this was a change in tack. Old-school charm abounds. Smart waiters, white tablecloths, a chap on the piano taking requests. Nouveau cuisine? Not a bit of it, but that's not why you come here. The food was fairly traditional but presented well - the lobster... read more

Yes I know that is an Eagles song, one of my favorites. And so is this restaurant since we discovered it in the early 70's. We reserved window seat a day in advance for 6pm because it is very busy after that even in midweek in mid September. At hat time we can see the harbor and then the sun... More

I had great expectations but was disappointed. First you have to wait for your table beyond the agreed reservation time (it seems that hotel guests are treated with priority), then you are seated in the very cold room next to the piano. The waitress was not attentive, served the meat which was ordered without the sauce with sauce and has... More

Made a reservation at the Reading Room one night for 7:30 and were excited to eat at one of the higher rated restaurants in Bar Harbor. Got done with our activities early and called to see if they could take us a little earlier. The man I spoke to said come at 7:00 and they thought we could get in... More

From the attentive service, to the incredible views and amazing food, we felt like royalty at the Reading Room Restaurant. The atmosphere is so relaxing, with dim lighting and soft piano music playing in the background. To start, my husband had the stuffed mushroom appetizer and I had a pecan gorgonzola spinach salad, both of which were delicious. What I... More

Service is excellent we had a reservation for table for 2 on the water. Food is good but you are paying for the location. I wouldn't bring young children here or even teenagers probably not what they are looking for.

Went back to the Reading Room for dinner after being there last year. The food and service was very good. I suggest reservations because even with them we had to wait for about 30 minutes. It is worth the wait.
