This restaurant is lovely. Great views. The waitstaff is attentive and quick. The food, however is horrible! Dry, rubbery eggs. Smoked salmon you'd need a magnifying glass to see. The rye toast was good, though. And a nice touch to have those little jars of different jam flavors. Coffee was good. But overall -- a ripoff. STAY away.

This was our first meal in Bar Harbor and it did not disappoint. I choose several appetizers in lieu of an entree and the Duck was excellent was squash puree served with it. Service was excellant and we were not disappointed.

Beautiful setting with a fantastic view. My appetizer, asparagus strudel, was good but could have used just a pinch if salt. The lobster pie was really rich but excellent. The accompanying vegetables had no seasoning at all, however. The strawberry rhubarb crisp was very good. The service was impeccable.

The clam chowder was very good and I enjoyed the trout filled lobster. The service was great and the ambiance was really nice. It is definitely one of the more formal restaurants in Bar Harbor.

We were disappointed with our dinner in the Reading Room. I ordered rare seared tuna, and it was cooked medium to medium-well. The lamb chops were acceptable, but not exceptional. While the food was nothing to rave about, the service (at dinner only) was the biggest disappointment. Our reservation was for 7:30, so we weren't exactly there at closing time,... More

Celebrated our anniversary at the Reading Room. We had a reservation at 7:30 and were given a great window front table with a great view. Pianist was great and added to the ambiance and the food was good, although definitely overpriced. However, the place was a ghost town by 10 pm. Piano player stopped, bar closed, we were the last... We ate in the Reading Room twice during our first visit in May 2013, and were eager for another great meal during our visit in July 2014. Unfortunately, while my wife's and her mother's meals were great/hot, my veggies and rice pilaf were literally ice cold, and couldn't even melt the butter. Our server had disappeared for a while, but... More

Great view, and a nice dinner. Quite a 'classic' style restaurant inside the BH Inn, with plenty of staff available, all very friendly and professional. A no-risk place to have a nice dinner with piano music. The lobster was really good, the crab cakes just OK. Nice wine list with reasonable prices.
