If it were only a view I was after, I would've given this restaurant the highest possible rating. It really is quite nice, with an upscale feel/ambiance that set it up to be truly special. Problem is, the food -- at least in my family's experience -- was nothing to write home about. Good, mind you, but not up the... More

We had the lobster bake, which was served without much fanfare. The chowder was a little bland, as were the blueberry muffins. The clams were also very gritty, but the mussels were good. The butter for the lobster was very bland-margarine. However, the blueberry pie was pretty spectacular, matched only by the view of the harbor. I'm happy with our... More

I went and sat at the terrace with my family and there a total of 10 people. A person in my party had called to make a reservation on the terrace, but was told they could not reserve the terrace unless we spoke to the restaurant's manager about it in advance. The manager was called several times the week before... More

The friendliness, extravagance, the view was unreal, the food was unreal and it was the best service I have ever had in all my travels (and that is a lot)!!

Our family had 2 dinners at this excellent restaurant as part of a package deal through our hotel. The food was excellent and the service was excellent. The prime rib was cooked as ordered, and the lobster was delicious. Dinner was accompanied by a talented pianist, and the overall atmosphere was elegant and relaxing. The harbor views are lovely.

The room is great...overlooking the harbor w amazing sunset views! The food is quite good--lobster out of shell and cioppino (?sp?) were both good. Decent wine list..good blueberry pie (as expected!)...adequate service...busboys were quite nice! Definitely a place to try!

Food was very good. Our family had lobster, surf and turf and haddock. Service was very attentive and view of the harbor was wonderful. A little pricey, but overall a wonderful dinner.

The Reading Room has one of the best coastal views of any restaurant I have ever visited; comparable to previous favorites of mine including places such as: Lake Como, Portofino, Barbados and Sausalito. The service was first class. I had the Seafood Cioppino which was perfect. My wife loved her Halibut and our son devoured the largest plate of grilled... More

We had dinner at the Reading Room to celebrate a special birthday during our vacation in Bar Harbor, and it was a highlight of the trip! The dining room itself is elegant and beautiful, but the real aesthetic treat is the stunning view of the ocean. Live piano music is another lovely touch, and our son age 7 was made... More

We went here after reading the good reviews. The restaurant has a beautiful view, nice setting and very pleasant and attentive service staff. The positive experience ended there. If you sit down in a restaurant with $30 entrees and they serve you margarine instead of butter it would probably be smart to leave then. The duck confit was probably one of... More
