A Casual Eatery, Good food, Very Reasonable

Try the Clam Chowder, delicious ! Salads good too. Not a rowdy tavern, even saw kids in this place, Maine's laws must be different than California ! Anyway, the point being that while people were laughing, talking, eating and having a good time, it was not out of control rowdy like some taverns can... read more

Prices good. Menu selection small. They market themselves as lighter fare. Very good place for dinner. Lobster roll loaded with lobster and less of the filler

This is a popular place with a long bar, many sports oriented TVs and tasty pub food. We enjoyed our meal and our lobster roll was great. NIce selections of draft and craft beers. Even though we were there during the off season it was crowded. A good place for a relaxed, informal meal.

I enjoy the local flavor. They serve chili early in the year, so I try to get there in time to enjoy it before it leaves the menu. It never disappoints. Their Blackened Chicken salad is an incredible taste treat.

Good pub food. Good drinks. Good service. What more can I say? We would visit again. Lobster rolls are good and not as expensive as the tourist traps.

We ate here twice on our honeymoon and found the Thirsty Whale to be both affordable and delicious. Bartender was accommodating and pleasant and the food was hot, tasty and under 10$. Blackened Haddock sandwich was truly excellent.

These are probably the best fried clams in town. You have your choice of coleslaw, french fries, or a whale salad [w/feta & olives] with your big plate of perfectly breaded and fried whole-belly clams. The atmosphere is laid back and pub like and the beer selection wide ranging. Service was friendly and prompt.

The Thirsty Whale is a small pub in downtown Bar Harbor. They have lots of beers on hand, both bottle and draft. It's small and decorated like it would have been at the turn of the 20th century, which is pretty neat. We had the Fisherman's Platter - which had friend haddock, fried shrimp, fried scallops and fried steamers (clams).... More

My husband and I tried our first lobster rolls here. I was surprised by it being cold (I assume that all lobster rolls are?) but it was good and not too mayonnaise-ey. The clam chowder was delicious and he loved the craft beer. The wait staff was kinda slow, but We didn't wait too long for our food. I only... More

Excellent food, great local atmosphere, friendly staff, reasonably priced. The fish is as fresh as you can get. Liked it so much we went two nights in a row.
