Mache (pronounced mash) Bistro is a superb French Bistro with only 12 tables. You must have a reservation or you will either have to wait or eat at their long bar. We had a lovely table in a corner with windows on each side. The wait staff were unobtrusive and excellent. Everyone seemed to take turns helping us. All were... More

We were here in mid October and just happened past this place. We stopped in and by chance two seats at the bar were opening up. It was so nice to eat non tourist/pub food. The food was excellent, the cozy atmosphere refreshing and I highly recommend Mache Bistro!!!

Mache Bistro was recommended by our Innkeeper and we concur that it provided one of the more masterfully prepared meals in Bar Harbor and is a must for "foodies". The restaurant is small, so even in Mid-September Saturday reservations needed to be made a day in advance for a 5:30 seating. The layout and furnishings of the dining room, music... More

Great ambience, French music, French food with local flavors. We celebrated our anniversary there, had a delightful meal (although my hanger steak could have been more tender), including the best wine ever (Columbia Valley CMS), the best local goat cheese ever, and great service.

Great place for a romantic dinner. Menu changes nightly with some staples. Great service. Make reservations! We love this place and ate the following: Diner One - goat cheese plate (three types with spiced honey and pear compote), duck confit (amazingly tender and flavorful) with polenta and spinach, crème caramel (best desert in the area), one hefe weizen Diner Two... The décor was warm and inviting. The eclectic music added a nice ambiance. And the attentive service was everything you’d expect from a highly-rated French restaurant in Bar Harbor. But at the end of the day, it really boils down to the food. This is where I think Mache Bistro falls slightly short of its #1 rating. I ordered a... More

I really like this place. In a town that can sometimes seem completely overrun with tourists and the business trying to make money off them, Mache Bistro is refreshingly different. To start with, the place is small, maybe a dozen tables. So reservations are a must. It is a pretty intimate and casual environment, conducive to nice conversation. In fact,... More

Very small restaurant but good menu. Book early to get a reservation and be sure to show up because they hold your table with your credit card . There is a penalty of $50 a person if you cancel within 24 hours of your reservation. Other than the stress of getting there on time, the meal was worthwhile.

Our thanks to Kyle Yarborough, the chef, and his staff for a wonderful evening and for exceptional food. My husband had an appetizer of two very good Vermont goat cheeses. I had small red peppers stuffed with lobster and goat cheese; a great combination. My husband had the porterhouse steak with carmelized onions and garlic mashed potatoes; a winner. I... More

Stunning, unique food in a cozy, intimate bistro. Attentive yet unobtrusive service. Knowledgable and friendly wine steward. The stuffed paquillo peppers were a very tasty appetizer. For an entree, we had exquisitely prepared and elegantly presented scallops served over French lentils. We give this bistro our highest rating!
