I live in BH during the summers - I discovered this little place off of upper Cottage Street, across from Hannafords two summers ago. Unlike a lot of touristy places in BH this one aims to please and the focus is on quality and good service. Their chef has been there for years, the wait staff hustles to meet your... More

We happened upon this restaurant by accident. Stopped in for a drink. Waitress was wonderful. We went back for breakfast a few days later. Great meal. Tom was wonderful. Very friendly. Only negative at all is the tea cups are the same cups they use for coffee and that makes the tea taste like coffee. Not a big deal to... More

We had dinner at the Friars' Pub earlier in the week. Overall, I'd say our dining experience was so-so. My wife had halibut encrusted in baked mashed potatoes. She said the halibut tasted like it had been frozen, then thawed, more than once. I had cioppino, which was a little heavy on the tomato sauce. The unique flavors of the... More

We stayed at the Black Friar for 4 nights. We ate dinner there on the first night an the food was delicious. Great attention to the details and superb service! The breakfasts were incredible! Everything we ordered was done to perfection. You don't have to stay here to get the breakfasts! And what a great value! We would recommend it... More

The Black Friar is a bit off the beaten path in Bar Harbor. It's across from the Hannaford's Supermarket tucked in the corner of the municipal building parking lot. What a great, unique pub and restaurant. The pub is very much like a traditional British or Irish pub, very small, intimate and cozy. Super friendly service with really good cocktails.... More

Nothing special about this pub. Food was good but pricey. Ask for price of "specials" before ordering.

We were staying at the Black Friar Inn, and after eating in the pub on the first night, there was no reason to eat anywhere else as the food was so good. The service was great and there was an excellent choice on the menu, at very good prices. Highly recommended.

The Black Friar Pub is tucked between West Street, Bridge Street and Cottage Street in Bar Harbor which makes it a hidden treasure for sure, despite being just steps from the main tourist beat in town. My husband and I had traveled three hours to reach the Black Friar for a gig that evening and we were tickled to find... More

We've been to Bar Harbor many, many times and never tried this wonderful little find. It's off the beaten path on Summer Street, but well worth seeking out. We split a delicious spinach salad that came with sautéed onions and mushrooms as well as goat cheese and sunflower seeds and a hot vinaigrette dressing. My husband had the Haddock Francaise... More
