Atmosphere is casual and friendly. The scallops were nicely browned on the outside and moist on the inside done to perfection with great taste. My wife's sirloin steak nicely charred on the outside while done to medium rare and great seasoning. The caesar salad also was one of the best I have eaten. Overall a great meal!

This "off the beaten track" pub-restaurant serves excellent, inventive meals. It is one of the friendliest (staff and guests) places I have ever been to. They also have live performances some nights. We highly recommend it.

This was one of the best restaurant experiences we have ever had.The scallops were tender and tasty. We were the first seated in a cozy room filled with finely crafted woodwork reclaimed from cottages from the Bar Harbor fire of the 1940's. Later 2 other couples were seated and over heard us talking about how great the scallops were.on my... More

The only item on the menu that even came closed to being inexpensive was the hamburgers. We came here looking for a cheaper meal, as that's what they advertise. The food was decent, but nothing special. Service was good and the building is beautiful.

Great place! Visited for dinner on Saturday evening. Antique filled interior with woodwork and fireplace from old BH cottages. Excellent service. Mussels to die for. Highly recommend.

Just off of Bridge St on Summer St you will find the Black Friar Inn and Pub. This is the place to go if you are looking for awesome food, great atmosphere and friendly people. My husband and I had the most amazing meal at this restaurant. It was our first of two nights in Bar Harbor and having stumbled upon this place, we knew we were having dinner here again the following night before we left! Sadly, when we returned, though the Black Friar Inn was open, the Pub (with it's ambiance, mixology, great... More

Based on other reviews we decided to have dinner here. Unfortunately because it was a slow night we were not given the option of eating in the dining room. As a result, our nice quiet dinner turned into a pub scene :-(. Had we been in the small dining room, the meal would have been just about perfect. My scallops... More

Although called a pub, it is more a gastro-pub, with both a pub menu and a dinner menu. When it opened some years ago, we tried this place and disliked it. Everything seemed fried, we wrote it off. We went back recently to listen to one of our friends playing music there, and ordered some food. It was very good,... More

Spent a few days in Bar Harbor and came across the best restaurant there in a hidden corner, where you would have to ask the locals where to find it. The Black Friar pub was great. The Chef, Don, cooked up a great meal that was the best I had in Bar Harbor. He was friendly and came out and... More
