Authentic Hawaiian food

What is authentic Hawaiian food? This is what authentic Hawaiian food is suppose to be like. The food taste like you were at some aunty or uncle's hale (house) for a luau. My family was ono for Hawaiian food and we wanted to check out the Waiahole Poi Factory. We ordered pretty much everything! I'm a big fan of lomi salmon and poi, my daughter loved the squid luau and kalua pig. The guys loved all of these and the lau lau and chicken long rice. Everything was as expected at an... More

We stopped at this unassuming-looking place to try some traditional Hawaiian food as recommended by our guide - we loved it! My husband and I shared a combo plate - kalua pig lau lau which came with rice (unfortunately they were out of poi when we arrived), and also includes sides of lomi-lomi salmon and haupia. All delicious :) We... More

This place is definitely worth stopping for… try the chicken long rice or the squid with taro. Smiling staff handed over a piece of haupia for me to taste. Wish I had brought some home!

We decided to stop by for lunch today and try some authentic Hawaiian food...the guy working the counter was helpful in as answering our questions...the food was good but different from what we expected for Hawaiian food.. chalk it up to our ignorance. ..try the small plates if uncertain...and go with an open mind.

Not much atmosphere right next to the busy highway but authentic Hawaiian food was good. Prices were good. Bathroom was pretty lame. Not sure we would return. Nice view across the busy street. Outdoor seating only or take out.

I've been here plenty of times. What I love about this place is that they make their food for the day, and when they are out, they are out. My husband and I are very picky about the quality of our meats, and the meat here is always fresh, juicy, and well prepared. We buy one of the huge combo... More

While we enjoyed the beach at Secret Island, my husband learned that the view from there included a great place to try local food, so when we were done we stopped by on our way back down the windward coast. We had tickets for a luau that night so we chose to eat lightly. We wanted to try Laulau, so... More

Cool little place off the beaten path. Offers lots of local Hawaiian cuisine including poi! You will probably need a car, there is a bus station, but it might take a while to get there it is a bit north of Kailua. lol Just on the side of the road, great place to grab some food then go to any...
