A Really Country Style Experience

My wife and I as well as some of our local friends make it a point to visit the Kualapuu Cookhouse on a few occasions each time we visit Molokai. This year has been no exception. We went up for their Thursday night Prime Rib Special and had another enjoyable evening. As usual it is necessary to... read more

Sorry, we were really looking forward to a meal at the Cookhouse since it was supposed to be one of the best on Molokai. Well, it wasn't. The food was almost inedible. The meat was so overcooked you weren't sure what type of animal it may have come from The rice was off taste. This was one of the three... More

Limited seating, we had a grouchy server. The only table left had not been cleared from last patrons. So we stood beside it not really knowing what to do and the server came up to us and said "sit down" . Being hungry we obeyed. She looked at table and said oh I need to clean that. "Ya think!!" Anyway... More

A friend and I were doing Mule ride to Kalaupapa, and stopped at this place for breakfast , unfortunately we were running late , and only had 25 minutes, they made the breakfast in 7 minutes ( great home fries and Portuguese sausage). The cookhouse has great charm, and the staff are great , definitely will go back !!!

This place is long established in the community, but both times we had rude locals serving us. So much for it being the friendly isle and we were disappointed with the food too the second time.

People say that on Moloka'i the Cookhouse offers the best food that you don't cook yourself, and we wouldn't disagree with that. The grub is tasty and reasonably priced. Nobody, however, would describe the physical plant as elegant. "Rustic" may be more like it. You bring your own six-pack of beer or bottle of wine, which may be inconvenient but... More

I've eaten here several times on my two visits to Molokai. Some people consider it the best restaurant on the island. All portions are huge, and really average. That's okay. It's better than bad, which is easy to get on the island. My mahi sandwich was enormous and the plate was loaded with fries. Even though the fish was fried,... More

Service is polite, island-time slow (but worth it!), and the casual seating outside is very nice. Picnic tables, so when it's a little crowded, enjoy sharing your space with others. Club sandwich is terrific. There was a pork special when we were there. Tasty, but swimming in fat. Other items on the menu were well liked by our picnic table... More

We went back a couple of times and each time was an excellent meal. Molokai has limited options for eating out but this place is worth seeking out. Their ribs were excellent! The sauce was amazing. It's a bring your own bottle place frequented by locals. Don't be surprised to order something and be told they are out-since it's a... More

We have been going to the Island for 15 years now and always stop at the Cookhouse. Just to clarify it's name, it is called the Cookhouse because it was in fact the actual cookhouse for the Sugar Cane workers back in the days when sugar cane was grown commercially on the Island. The food is always good and plentiful.... More
