Little hole in the wall place with dark brown walls, and the only view is Main Street, or a parking lot in the back. You don't go for the ambiance - you go for the food. I've gone for lunch with a friend three times in the last few weeks, and we're on senior budgets. I think we aim to... More

We were driving around looking for a place to have lunch and decided to try Main Street Bistro. We are glad we did. Amazing flavors and delightful combinations. You should try their onion rings.

The grilled mahi mahi with fried artichokes with truffle oil and balsamic served with mashed potatoes was truly wonderful, as we're the cherry-wood smoked chicken quesadillas. The shoestring onion rings looked REALLY good, too. The beer was cold! The only negatives: long waits because there are only two waitresses who also serve as hostesses and just one cook on duty... Classy, quality food in a low key, historic setting, I ordered the mahi mahi over mashed potatoes with blackened artichokes...it was divine. I couldn't believe how great the potatoes were, the artichokes were outstanding as well. The fish was fresh.

Small hole in the wall place you might not look twice at but that would be a mistake. I think it's the owner doing the cooking and he is great. They are only open Monday-Friday and lots of locals eat there. They have specials every day, like avocado stuffed with crab, grilled Mahi, and it's all fresh and local. They... More

We went right after lunch at the start of the dinner hour and it felt like we were intruding on an event between the owner and his friends. The chef/owner was extremely kind to us. The prices were higher than we wanted to pay, so we got mini burgers and shared an order of french fries. The food was good,... More

We stopped in on the early side, and could barely tell they were open. Chef Tom was by himself, and quite charming. We were in the mood for just appetizers or small plates rather than entrees. We started with the half order of onion rings, which are the best we've ever had. Super paper thin, with a light coating, and... More

Chef Tom is one heck of a cook (yes he CAN be cranky) - he runs a simple, often "one man" show in Wailuku. I live on island and have eaten there 10+ times, and am taking visitors on island there tonight...I've never been disappointed by the quality and uniqueness of the menu...doesn't change much, but Chef Tom has specials... We were looking forward to an early dinner before our flight out of Maui, so we stopped by the Main Street Bistro. It was very quiet, such that we weren't entirely sure it was open when we first walked in. However, there was someone inside and a few people seated at the back. When we walked in, the first thing... We stopped for lunch. The onion rings (actually I they were more like straws) were as good as any I've had. The half order was plenty for 4 of us. Prices were reasonable for Maui and the food was very good.
