This is my favorite hole in the wall (LOCAL) place for Japanese food on Maui. This is NOT Wailea/Lahaina fancy shmancy...I sat down after my work-out class in my shorts and tank top at 5pm when the place opens for dinner. It is tucked under the garage of an apartment and business complex (Puuone Towers, Lower Wailuku) and right next... More

I have eaten here several times.. the staff is friendly but dining area is small.. The food seems to be made with a little more salt that I prefer.. Big note: this is right near a Korean Bar...some people with smaller children may be a little put off

This place is very local style, great for families. The food is very good if you like Japanese food. The prices are very reasonable and the staff very friendly. I will return often.

We love Japanese food and try to find "local" restaurants when we travel. Based on other reviews, we were looking forward to lunch at Tokyo Tei. The people were friendly, the music authentic, the other patrons seemed not to be tourists and the miso was tasty...so far so good! But we could barely find the chicken in the chicken sukiyaki... I've been going to Tokyo Tei since I was a kid. It is a local favorite on Maui. I've had tempura at many restaurants, and nothing beats the tempura at Tokyo Tei. Both the shrimp and vegetable tempuras are amazing. I also always order the ahi sashimi. If you go for dinner, you can expect to receive white rice, some... More

Small local place. The bentos are super tasty. Get one with the tempura. Best tempura I ever had. Ambiance and service is pleasant but not over the top

Under a lower standard than Honolulu, I guess if I had to choose, this would be the best of so-so Japanese restaurants in the Wailuku and Kahului area. I can say the service is generally pretty good and the food comes out prompt. Portions are generous (they give you your own rice pot and your own tea kettle). Its better... More
