Do not have the mai tai. Advertised as the best in Hawaii, mine tasted like a basic 'rum and orange juice'. You're better off having a Maui beer. The burger was OK; nothing to write home about. Servings are generous, so at least you'll leave full. Overpriced, though. Good service.

Ok if you are looking for romantic and quiet - this is not the place. If you are looking for excellent food in a loud, fun, intimate environment because you are squished next to the people at the table beside you (which is not an all bad thing) then Ma'la is your place! I can't come to Maui (which is... More

I booked a birthday party dinner for 11 people at Ma'la. They cannot guarantee where you will be seated so we ended up inside, no direct view of the ocean or sunset. But this is not the main reason I wouldn't recommend this place. I noticed a few people from our party were already at the restaurant. So when I... More

Mala is one of the best restaurants I visited here on Maui. Staff is attentive, friendly, and accommodating. There are tons of bugs throughout the restaurant, but it is something you have to deal with when dining outdoors. A must try for anyone staying on Maui.

Had another exceptional experience at Ma'La yesterday. Went in for happy hour, sat at the bar. Mojitos, oyster shooters and ahi bruschetta were amazing, but honestly, Lisa and Lance behind the bar are what sets this place apart. My wife and I will continue to recommend this place to all our guests!! Oh, do yourself a favor and take a... More

This is a small restaurant right on the water in Lahaina, behind the Safeway. Great food at reasonable prices (for Hawaii). Ahi flatbread was great as were the brussels sprouts (can't believe I just typed that). adults and kids loved it. Watch the sunset and the turtles playing in the water.

My husband and I ate here on our first night in Maui. We were two tired travelers and since we were five hours behind our normal schedule, we were hungry for dinner when we landed. We found Ma'la by searching the web for who had the BEST burger in Lahaina. We showed up around 4:30 p.m. and we were quite... More

The name Tavern is well chosen here. This is no quiet, white tablecloth joint. The bar is small and lively, the music upbeat, and the service familiar, in a good, sort of locals spot way. If you can, ask to be seated outside because when the sunshade comes up and the roof rolls back, it is a very fine spot... More

Word of mouth led us to discover this understated Oceanside restaurant. Our absolute favorite is the seared ahi bruschetta followed with an entree and drinks. Add in a beautiful sunset, gentle trade winds, and turtles along the shoreline and it makes for a pretty great dinner or lunch.

We visit Maui often and always have at least one meal here during our stay. The view is great at sunset if you have patio dining but there is usually a wait, even with reservations, but the food is worth the wait. Our favorites are the calamari, avalon ahi, and the ahi bruschetta. Everything we have tried however has been... More
