When you come on up to visit us at Ulupalakua, you'll find it's not just about the drive. These days, it's about the food. "We're becoming a food destination," says Will Munder, Executive Chef of Ulupalakua Ranch Store & Grill. Mosey up to the counter, and you'll still find all the classic Ranch favorites, but the good stuff just got better. Now everything is made from scratch and as local as we can get it. The Ulupalakua lamb, beef and famous elk are part of our commitment to serve only meat from the Ranch or from Maui. And thanks to Upcountry's abundance. The bustling Grill gets crates of fresh local lettuce, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, pineapple, herbs and more, every morning.

Reminders of times gone by are everywhere inside the Ulupalakua Store, from the sepia-toned photos on the walls to the cowboy hats on the shelves. The Store is a happy place of simple things, good things. Our motto here at Ulupalakua Ranch is: "Happy People." Plain and simple.

Gem in the Hills

Found this wonderful grill while visiting a nearby winery. Fascinating merchandise in the store and wonderful it's so from the grill. This included elk burgers, lamb burgers, homemade soups etc. There were picnic type areas to eat either on the veranda or out on the lawn, surrounded with flowers... read more

On the suggestion of the gentleman that we rented a Harley from we came up here for a meal. He said that he comes once a week to eat here. We had the beef burgers well done (Canadian thing) and they were still tasty and juicy. I thought it was a really great burger but not enough to go out... More

The ranch was a place we used to enjoy having a burger. Not sure what happened, but the burger wasn't good enough to make the drive. The korean ribs were good. Ditto with the salad dressings.

We drove up from Kapalua just to try this place. We had heard rave reviews from Several different people in read high scoring reviews online. We both ordered the beef burger medium with grilled pineapple and bacon. Unfortunately the burgers did not live up to the hype. They must not use a high percentage got beef has the burger was... Found this wonderful grill while visiting a nearby winery. Fascinating merchandise in the store and wonderful it's so from the grill. This included elk burgers, lamb burgers, homemade soups etc. There were picnic type areas to eat either on the veranda or out on the lawn, surrounded with flowers and green covered mountains.

We heard the burgers here were awesome. Well the people were awesome but the burger was average. Views were spectacular at about 1500 foot elevation. It's a long way there but if you are heading back from hana or there for a wine tasting you should stop by.

A visit to Maui is not complete without taking the nice upcountry drive to the winery and finishing with a mouthwatering burger on the porch of the ranch store.

Situated across from the Maui Winery, this place caters to all types of travelers. The food was interesting and the entertainment for the afternoon was good. Eating lunch at the base of a mountain overlooking the ocean is a great way to dine.

We love the trip upcountry and have been coming to Ulupalakua for years. It's eclectic both in the general store and the menu. I'm kind of partial to the chili. Sit on the porch and enjoy the moment and the view.

We stopped here after our day driving the road to Hana. We got there just as they closed and the chef kept the grill going and made delicious burgers for our group. We tried the elk, venison and beef burgers and they were great!

It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's a gem. Great food, especially the burgers, and awesome gifts. Make it a 2fer and visit Maui winery across the street!
