If you travel to Japan you will feel right at home at Izakaya Matsu. The character of the establishment is right out of Tokyo. Love the Udon Noodle dishes there and the sushi and sashimi are made with TLC. Plan to take your time and relax. Don't rush the experience.

Great little Izakaya in the middle of the Azeka Shopping Mall. It is a small restaurant, that has great Japanese food and very fresh sushi and sashimi. The restaurant can fill up quickly, so reservations are recommended.

Chicken was under cooked, service was slow and understaffed. Meal was over priced for what received. Meals or items were all alacart style

After being disappointed by several of Maui's highly rated restaurants, Izakaya Matsu was a wonderful meal, so nice to find genuinely good food, rather than overhyped crap. We had an udon soup special, ginger shio udon, which was delicious broth with loads of ginger, scallions and greens. Very good. Roasted mackerel was simple and just right, lots of salt on... More

We were looking for a local Japanese place whilst on honeymoon and went to this one based on the trip advisor reviews. We were not disappointed. We booked a table, however there would have been a table had we been a walk-in, but it is such a tiny restaurant it is easy to see how it could fill up quickly... More

You know it's a good restaurant when you're the only non-regular. The small space was full and there is only one waitress, but she was friendly and efficient. Food was as good as some meals I've had in Japan! If you want a break from the tourist scene, give this spot a try.

If you go, you definitely need a reservation. No reservation means no table. This is a small, intimate, local restaurant providing excellent Japanese food at reasonable non-hotel prices. If you want some flare, go somewhere else. If you want great food with locals, this is the place. The sushi is as fresh as anywhere. The miso butter fish melts in... More

Izakaya Matsu advertizes themselves as Maui’s most traditional Japanese restaurant and we agree. One June 13 we had dinner at Izakaya Matsu and noticed about half the customers were Japanese. One felt as if we were dining in a small restaurant in Japan. Our recent dinner included chicken yakitori, salmon skin salad, the miso butterfish combination and tempura combination. Both... More

Very authentic Japanese! We were greeted by a very friendly lady with a nice smile! The food was very good! We ordered a few things we weren't familiar with and were very satisfied! Butter miso fish- was yum, kimchi- was yum and sushi was- very yum!
