Near the Lihue airport and hungry?

Hamura's is in a weird spot. You'll swear you've taken a wrong turn, but you are in the right place. Ordered the Special saimin. With some chicken and shrimp skewers on the side. Never got the shrimp, but oh well. The special was pretty good. The won ton dumplings were definitely the highlight... read more

We were parking the car to head over to the beer company and saw this place and thought it was worth a shot for dinner. I am glad we did! Amazing food, local folks and 5 minutes after we sat down there was a line out the door waiting.

The good: you should come here once during your trip just to experience the local flavor. I love the feel of the place, the lunch counter atmosphere. And it the food is tasty though not the best saimin I've had. The not-so-good: It is loaded with msg and not as light as we were hoping. We later heard that the... More

We always like to find interesting places where the “locals” like to go. Add to that some good reviews from tripadvisor and it is a place where we want to go. The Hamura Saimin Stand met those qualifications. We went there for a late lunch. Even though the lunch crowd was gone it was still busy. Apparently we are not... More

Whenever I visit a place, and i am looking for a place to eat, the rule of thumb that I follow is "follow the locals" and you wont go wrong. This is the place to go to get a quick meal with a flavor of Hawaii. The prices are a far cry from what we've experienced with the restaurants near... More

My husband and I stopped at Hamura Saimin before our flight out of Lihue and enjoyed the experience. I had read positive reviews about the restaurant and that it was something of an institution on Kauai. We loved the unique curvy counter and quickly found something we wanted on the menu. The service was friendly and the food was good.... More

Went back for another bowl but forgot to say Special bowl. Nowhere near as good as the Special, no wonton or seafood, egg and roast pork. Makes ordinary soup Special Soup. Reference point to find it off Rice St. Turn at Salvation Army store and go one block.

The inside of this restaurant is more like a rundown midwest diner, but it makes up for that by having noodle broth that has a unique exquisite flavor and a very local feel (hence the 4-star rating). We had a regular medium saimin (plenty for a regular guy), chicken teriyaki stick, wonton soup and wonton saimin. The chicken stick was... More

We were told that this was a 'must do'. I'm glad we experienced this touch of Hawaii. Stools which means counter eating. Little choice of dishes. Seems that this is combination of Japanese, Chinese & Hawaiian culture. Fun to watch them prepare it. Waitresses write nothing down. They remember it all & do it well. The Passion Fruit Pie is... When we first visited Kauai many years ago, Hamura Saimin was already a local institution. Back in the 1970s and 1980s the (sub)urban legend was that Japanese businessmen would fly in from Honolulu to come here and have the saimin (noodles) before returning to Tokyo. Having lived in Tokyo and Fukuoka, and knowing the addiction to ramen, I would believe... More
