Excellent sushi but very busy restaurant!

Went to dinner twice. First time did not have a reservation and happened to get in with the last 4 seats in the back counter which ended up being an excellent location with what seemed like our own private bartender. Ordered several types of sushi, sashimi, different rolls and all were of excellent... read more

I have heard good things about sushi in Hawaii and coming from LA I was really excited! Kintaro is a classic, Japanese styled restaurant that serves both sushi and teppanyaki. It has definitely seen its days as far as design goes but the restaurant is jamming from the moment the door opens. We sat at the sushi bar and by... More

We were looking for a place for dinner and came across this place. I will admit we got lucky we walked in there at 7 and there were 2 seats open at the sushi bar and sat right down. Ordered 2 beers, 2 apps, and 4 different rolls. Everything was very good except for the scallop roll, wasn't that it... More

We have been coming to Kauai for years. We decided to eat at Kintaro. We have eaten here before. The tempura was not good. The tempura was soggy. I would suggest to use smother tempura recipe. The service was nice and friendly. The restaurant was nice and cool with a quiet a/c. The restaurant was crowdy.

Food was great. We got about 10 different types of food. Soft Shell Crab was my favorite and the Ginger Creme Brulee hit the spot! They give out these free fried won ton which are tasty. Service could be a little better. Waiters do work extremely hard and you see their sweat but they could smile a little more and... More

We went to eat at Kintaro's one night but had to wait over half an hour for a table so we booked to come back another night. I'm glad we did because the food is so delicious! The service isn't great, our waiter seemed annoyed with us when we weren't quick to order and wasn't very helpful explaining menu items.... More

It's hard to get a table at Kintaro's: reservations are a must! But, even a reservation does not ensure that you'll be seated at a table within 10 minutes. So arrive early (to be first in line for your timeslot), and be prepared to wait. If you choose the teppan yaki service, you may notice that the chefs have less... More

Sushi, rolls and chirashi was excellent. Great service from our waitress. Made reservation one day in advance thus no wait. Yesterday's wait time was one hour.

We had dinner here w/ a large group. Restaurant was able to accommodate us and the food was very tasty and delicious! Parking could be an issue when it's crowded. However, they have an overflow parking lot directly across the street.

This place is always packed because it's so good - mostly with locals too, which says a lot. The sushi is always good, always fresh, very consistent. They also offer teppan yaki and other such cooked things for people who like that, which is useful if anyone in your party is not as into sushi as you are. The selection... More
