I as expecting more from the reviews. The market smelled very very fishy... I was hoping for fresh poke, but what we got from foodland was better and much less expensive.

Perhaps I was expecting too much. I love traditional Hawaiian food, and found their food very good, but not the best ever. I had 5 different items and the best one was the spicy ahi tuna, although it was swimming in mayo sauce. I also liked the chicken musubi. The worst was their seaweed salad called the "ocean salad." It... More

I had seen laulau and poke featured on the Travel Channel, so we decided to try both on our visit to Kauai. Thanks to Tripadvisor, we discovered the Pono Market in the town of Kapaa. My wife and I ordered the chicken and pork laulau and the ahi and octopus (tako) poke. All orders were delicious; however, we decided we... More

Don't see the fuss nor taste the hype. Sorry aunties and uncles, your food is on par with all the rice and spam anywhere else. It's just that you are open at 6AM and seem to be the only place to be open that early.

2 inside tables and 2 outside...not what we expected. Food was tasty and fresh, staff friendly. Research local dishes first so you know what to order, or you might end up slowing the line while you figure it out. Fun local flavor!

Some of the best local style food on the East side of Kauai try the chicken laulau hawaiian plate. Pono market has been on Kauai for over 30 years and has changed with the times but still da bes!

I was delighted to positively review Pono Market in March 2012. I am equally delighted to be able to report that all my accolades from 2012 continue to apply in February 2014. Nephew Rob has moved on and "Uncle Ken" is now a team with his wife and between them they serve the best specialty coffees on the island. We... More

The best laulau I have ever had. Plate lunches are amazing. The staff is warm and welcoming! If you are looking for authentic Hawaiian food, this is the place to go.

Four of us topped here on our second day on the island and I wish I could have come back several times. Unfortunately, it didn't happen that way. I absolutely loved my Kalua pig plate lunch with white rice and macaroni/potato salad. Their food is real, authentic and wonderful.

A small local market with fresh poke...nothing fancy - 2 scoops of rice and a mound of fresh poke. We had the shoyu and the spicy lobster with a pork laulau. We sat outside and savored our lunch. The only thing that would have made this absolutely perfect if it wasn't served in Styrofoam.
