Monico's is one of the dinner 'pillars' for us on Kauai. Food is delicious and reasonably priced. We had fish tacos (ahi-ahi). The menu is long with a great variety of foods but it is the fish tacos we love! It seemed that the service was a bit slow on a night that was not particularily busy. At the same... More

Started coming to Monicos over 3 years ago. At the time it was a great find and prices were very reasonable. Since then, not much has changed. Food is still top notch and prices, albeit have increased, are still very reasonable. There is both an indoor seating area and an outdoor courtyard area (part of the Kinnipopo shopping center). We've... More

We passed by Monicos on a drive up to Hanalei our first day on the island. It was colorful and it had been a while since we'd had any Mexican and it just sounded great, so we planned a stop for the drive back to Lihue. We arrived around 1:30 and though there were diners, it was uncrowded. The decor... More

My family had been coming to Monico's for years. They do Mexican with a little Hawaiian flair very well. I will say that this time around there were a few things that kind of irked me. Extra charges for chips and salsa if you eat more than the one basket the bring - feels a little nickel and dimey. The... More

I have been coming here for several years and Its still the best Mexican food I've every had, always fresh and quality controlled. Watched them cut up a fresh tuna that looked like it was still moving and a pig anyone would love. Love Monico and Kathleen (owners) they treat us like family. Tony & Juanita K

Great atmosphere, nice outdoor tables, food was pricey but fresh and great sauces. Staff was very friendly, nice cozy bar.

Monicos verde and mole sauces are incredible. I have eaten at true authentic Mexican places throughout the southwest and this place has it nailed. We dine here on a regular basis. (If you like spicy be sure to ask for the Habenero sauce. )

Monico's is a really great Tex-Mex restaurant in Kapaa, but with a great Hawaiian touch. I found the usual fajita and burrito items to be fresh and wonderfully tasty, but the seafood tacos were very special indeed. The seafood was very fresh and had large pieces of fish, which was perfect, since this is Kauai, after all. And the sauce... More

Tex-Mex is generally boring, chimichanga this, fajita that. But aside from the crowd-pleasers Monico's has "secret handshake" items buried within such as pork al pastor and home made brown mole. This is the best Tex-Mex I've had in Hawaii, and I live in the state, and second best overall Mexican after Cocina in Honolulu. The rice, beans, red sauce...all of... More

being from Texas i start judging when the salsa arrives. This place delivers the entire meal and also has margaritas like homemade. Will go back before we leave
