Fresh food, group dining

Kauai Ono is a unique dining experience. The food is prepared in truck and the seating is at large tables located outdoors under a tent. The food was very fresh, local and overall good--not spectacular but good. The group seating is neat if you are up for meeting new people. It would also be a good... read more

Our dinner at Kauai Ono was one of the highlights of our trip. All of the dishes were incredible, with ingredients that were local and fresh. A truly farm to fork dining experience. The group dining wasn't exactly my cup of tea, but then again we didn't particularly hit it off with the other people at our table. Although on... More

Limited menu with average items. It's like a 50's road house that has not improved or updated since it opened.

OK, to be honest, we aren't huge fans of "group dining," but thought we would try it based on the reviews. Unfortunately, it was pedestrian at best. Just because the ingredients are fresh doesn't mean the food is good or creative. The first course of taro was mediocre, the salad consisted simply of fresh greens, the wahoo was cooked perfectly... Eat farm to table and sea to table under a tent. Wonderful fresh food, simply prepared. Five course meal that drew from the taro fields of Hanalei and the farms of Kilauea. Waloo for one course and wild boar and kalua pork with golden sweet potato for another. Sit at a table and meet new people. Second year we have done... More

Important to note that the location has moved from Hanalei to Princeville. Same tent, table/benches and mobile kitchen, just now located at the Princeville Ranch. New construction on his old (leased?) lot in Hanalei prompted the move. No worries, you will receive an email and text with directions after making reservations and prior to your dining evening. Second time to... More

Justin prepared the best food our group ate on the island while we were here for a week. He catered a small wedding (less than 40 people) and everything he made was delicious! Our favorites were the ceviche, pork ribs, and butterfish. The dessert was also wonderful! Our servers were great and he seemed like an easy person to work... More

We visit Kauai every year and based on all the glowing reviews thought we'd give it a try. While not a fan of communal dining it sounded like fun. Perhaps our expectations were a bit high and as the chef announced at the beginning of our meal, "don't expect a Michelin quality meal out of a food truck". The first... More

Kauai Ono is a wonderful, fun experience...eating out in a "big tent", in the dark at a table with strangers that become friends! The food is prepared daily, according to what the Chef buys at the local markets. The dishes are tasty, local produce (some of which I had never tried) and their presentation is beautiful. Every dish is prepared... More

This is a really neat experience and offers a way to mix things up from traditional restaurants where we ate the other nights. During my stay, they only had two nights available over the course of one week, so make sure to make reservations about a couple weeks in advance at least. We made a reservation on yelp. I also...
