The lava rock cafe sucks

My family and I dined at the lava rock cafe a few days ago, the food was tasteless no seasoning or spices. The drinks waaay over priced! My hamburger steak was under cooked, waitress got a drink order wrong but we paid for it anyway. They added a 20 dollers tip to our bill just to serve 4adults at... read more

We stopped here on a whim on our way to the Volcano National Park. The atmosphere was very diner -like and location was perfectly off the beaten path. It took a while to get our drink orders but the food arrived in a timely fashion. We both ordered the Kalua pork sandwiches with french fries. The service left a little... More

We had eight in our group two families. Wanted to sit together booked as two families. . At time the bill came she said we add 18% for large groups. Service wasn't good but that's not the point. Was a simple meal over looking the crater. Atmosphere is nice.

We hit this cafe just right. We were able to get breakfast for two of us and lunch for two. Good offering of local foods like Loco Moco and passion fruit salad dressings! Friendly and attentive staff. This is a good find since the other fancier restaurants close between breakfast, lunch and dinner. We got our food just before two... More

The best thing I had at this restaurant was a frozen drink made with passion fruit. It was fantastic. however. I was really hungry after visiting Volcano State Park and wanted vegetables. Not much of a selection there. Fry s and slaw. I would have expected more since the ground is so fertile there. It is a missed opportunity to... More

The server was friendly. The food was uninspiring and expensive. They had variety without flavor. My husband had pulled pork and rice which is a fairly common food here due to the wild pig. He generally raves about it....and oh did he rave but not in a positive way. He had to ask for barbecue sauce unless he wanted dried... More

Stooped by for breakfast while visiting the Volcano National Park. Very good food and the price was reasonable. Friendly and great service.

Look, there are only a few choices to eat when staying in the Volcano area of the Big Island. Unless you are staying there for several days, you are pretty much relying on what others say. We picked this since it had good hours and an extensive menu. What a mistake. Service was slow (ok it is a lot of... More

Menu is basic "diner" stuff, burgers, fish sandwiches, wraps, and salads, along with a few Hawaiian twists. But they do it very well. Food is consistently tasty. Service can be a bit slow, because they are BUSY! Milkshakes taste like childhood memories.

This place is great! Friendly staff, good food and good prices with local draft beers. We decided to stop here after a very short visit next door where 5 waitresses passed by us before anyone acknowledged us, very rude. We'd visit again when/if back in the area.
