We've visited What's Shakin before when we've taken the scenic route just north of Hilo (there's markers on the signs, and it's a pretty 4 miles) They have great smoothies (my favorite is the Blue Hawaii), but they also have some local fruits, baked goods and other products. the specially named soaps they have for sale are worth a giggle... A must after seeing Akaka Falls. They grow the fruit on their farm that is used in the smoothies. They have other food, but the smoothies are why you stop.

A great place to refresh after a couple of hours in the Tropical Botanical Garden. Check out behind the hut, up the hill in the orchard area.

we stopped here after leaving Hilo and taking the scenic route to Kailua Kona. I had read online that they offered gluten free bread. We stopped right at prime lunch time. We were able to place our order quickly - but had quite a long wait for the food. The smoothies are delivered quickly, but the food is made to... More

Driving from Hilo back to our place in Wiakoloa, we took the "Scenic Route", and came upon What's Shakin. Everything is nice, clean, well presented, not touristy, but well done. On the menus is a lot more than just smoothies, though that's all my family and I were looking for. Lots of choices, all with fresh local fruits, nothing is... More

Very good - amazing smoothies and shakes, coupled with a good selection of well made sandwiches and fresh local fruit. Just minutes away from the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens.

We stopped by 'What's shakin' to grab a smoothie after a wonderful couple of hours at Hawaiian Tropical Botanical Gardens. They were just closing up and we were offered a discount on guacamole, since otherwise it would have been thrown away. A discount and a double large heaping amount .. wow, that was some good stuff!! Our discount went out... More

One of our servers in Kona recommended this place for lunch since we said we were going to the other side of the island. They are located on the 4 1/2 mile scenic high about a mile from the Hawaiian Tropical Botanical gardens. Glad we stopped here. quaint little place where you eat outside on their porch or on a... This is in the hidden gem category. This is not a hole in the wall or a greasy spoon. This is a very competent and healthy restaurant (and fruit smoothie bar) with fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, and friendly staff. The food was excellent, and the bonus was it also had ocean views. I was very impressed with the food, and... More
