Authentic Italian in a back to the ‘60’s environment

We’d heard that the little town of Pahoa, recently threatened by a lava flow from Kilauea, was in something of a time warp, an opportunity to remember hippie days, breathing in the pervasive Mary Jane perfume. Several restaurants are clustered on Old Pahoa Street, and we decided to try Paolo’s... read more

We’d heard that the little town of Pahoa, recently threatened by a lava flow from Kilauea, was in something of a time warp, an opportunity to remember hippie days, breathing in the pervasive Mary Jane perfume. Several restaurants are clustered on Old Pahoa Street, and we decided to try Paolo’s Tuscan Bistro for dinner. It was BYOB, so we went... More

Very quaint restaurant with about a dozen tables. BYOB. Waitresses were very authentic and friendly. No menu is provided to look at. The waitresses read you the options. Very tasteful to hear it but kind of hard to remember from one item to another. We ordered two salads but saw that most other couples were sharing. I had a gorgonzola... More

Delightful is how I would describe my entire experience at this restaurant. It was highly recommended by the B&B that my fiance and I stayed at. We did not have a reservation but the place was not busy since we came kinda late on a Sunday evening. It was unusual for me not to have any menu to look at... More

I Choose this place because it was ranked 1 in Pahoa and I just don't know this could be? Maybe it was the food I choose or maybe I was expecting it to be better than Kaleos bar and grille. There is no parking lot nor is there parking along the road. We had to park so far away and... More

Quirky? BOYB, and no menu. Our server had to recite the menu as to what they had from memory (which included what they were out of). The portion wasn't huge, so don't go hungry. It is small, and cramped, and the service is slow. But the food! Oh, the food made this all worth it!

We stayed in Pahoa for a week over the Thanksgiving holiday; Paolo’s Bistro is the only place we ate at twice! Everything we had was fantastic from appetizers (salads and soups) to main course (my favorite was the chicken parm) and ending with Tiramisu that my wife still talks about as her favorite of all time, the best overall meal... I had the best red snapper dinner ever in this gem of a restaurant! A feisty yet smiling waitress tells you what the chef's main courses are along with its side dishes--no deviations. You can actually taste the freshness in the pasta and vegetables. The seasonings used by this remarkable Italian chef is just short of genius. I'm drooling just... More

If ever here u must try this italian gem of a restaurant!! Wonderful service! There is no written menus! The waitress recites it!! Food was absolutely awesome! The chef came to the table and chatted with us! No need for dressing on your salad, that's how fresh & favorable the veggies were!! Just praying that the volcano doesn't destroy this... More

Oh my god, this is heavenly food. Paolo goes out every day to the fish market, farmers market, etc, and buys the freshest and best ingredients available on the island. From those, he works his culinary magic to make Italian food to die for. He doesn't, for example, cook up a big batch of marinara or other sauce. Nope, every... More
