Quirky? BOYB, and no menu. Our server had to recite the menu as to what they had from memory (which included what they were out of). The portion wasn't huge, so don't go hungry. It is small, and cramped, and the service is slow. But the food! Oh, the food made this all worth it!

We stayed in Pahoa for a week over the Thanksgiving holiday; Paolo’s Bistro is the only place we ate at twice! Everything we had was fantastic from appetizers (salads and soups) to main course (my favorite was the chicken parm) and ending with Tiramisu that my wife still talks about as her favorite of all time, the best overall meal... Amazing food time and time again. As authentic of an Italian restaurant with out going to Italy. Our sever was great and knew the menu inside and out. BYOB so come prepared, and hungry you will leave happy, full and satisfied! Mahalo

I had the best red snapper dinner ever in this gem of a restaurant! A feisty yet smiling waitress tells you what the chef's main courses are along with its side dishes--no deviations. You can actually taste the freshness in the pasta and vegetables. The seasonings used by this remarkable Italian chef is just short of genius. I'm drooling just... More

If ever here u must try this italian gem of a restaurant!! Wonderful service! There is no written menus! The waitress recites it!! Food was absolutely awesome! The chef came to the table and chatted with us! No need for dressing on your salad, that's how fresh & favorable the veggies were!! Just praying that the volcano doesn't destroy this... More

Oh my god, this is heavenly food. Paolo goes out every day to the fish market, farmers market, etc, and buys the freshest and best ingredients available on the island. From those, he works his culinary magic to make Italian food to die for. He doesn't, for example, cook up a big batch of marinara or other sauce. Nope, every... More

This is a chef with attitude! Paulo is known as a unique personality in the area. His food is superb! The flavors are sublime. He uses what is in season to create traditional Italian (from Livorno) cuisine. The Fruit of the Sea Pasta is unbelievable! I also love the squid ink pasta with whatever he's got it paired with. Come... More

THE BEST DINNER FOOD AROUND....Run by an actual chef with garden to table ingredients. Italian cuisine with the quaintest atmosphere. The Chef KNOWS his ingredients and won't dare offend an ingredient by paring it with one that isn't complimentary, so please don't take it personal if he won't prepare your food as you request. ONO BRAH, ONO!!!

Paolos consistently serves delicious food, from the homemade minestrone soup to the main course and the deserts. We make it a point to eat here several times each trip. Bring your own wine, no over charge for bad wines this way. And if you eat the soup, the homemade delicious bread, the main course you are bound to be stuffed.... More

My husband and I visited Paolo's for my second visit and his first. It lived up to its reputation as an Italian gem in the heart of the charming time warp of a village of Pahoa. Paolo, the owner, offers a fairly ambitious farm to table menu with more choices than you would expect at such a small place. The... More
