My wife and had have been fans of funky little KVC for years and were each looking forward to one of their juicy cheese burgers (to which they always added green chili supplied by us), but on our mid February visit were greeted by a "CLOSED" sign. The new owners of the property were in early stages of what sounded... More

This January my parents, my aunt, and I spent most of our time in or near Kona while vacationing on the big island but ventured out to the other side of the island for a day. We all agreed that this little out of the way cafe not only had the best food but the atmosphere was exactly what we... More

The ride along the coastal road to the cafe is stunning as are some of the ocean parks along the way. The cafe is casual and friendly with a good choice of food. I ordered fish and chips (ono and potato waffles) with lilikoi lemonade (approx $15) and it was well cooked and good value. There's a little grocery shop... More

Visited the lava flow at Kalapana. Stopped at the cafe for some refreshment after a stroll in the hot sun on the black lava. Decent food, friendly staff, convenient location. Enjoy!

After a drive from Hilo to Kalapana to visit our coconut that we planted many years ago. We started to walked out toward the ocean on the new beach looking for our coconut with the other hundreds of small coconut palms planted by people who wanted to recreate the beauty of the coconut palm lined beach which was covered by... The manager at Gay Hawaii B&B recommended Kalapana Village Cafe. Since it was walking distance I left my car at the B&B and walked the short walk over. Had the fish platter with fries and mac salad. The grilled fish was moist and fresh. Served with a fresh lemon wedge. Walking out toward the ocean you cross lava fields which... More

We got the 3/4 pound one and split it (they were very accommodating with the extra plate). Order at the window and while you wait for the food, walk around the side to the convenience store and buy beer or wine at reasonable (for Hawaii) prices. The prime rib was as ordered, rare, and the wasabi cream can stand in... More

We stopped here for lunch during our tour of the Big Island. Counter service only, with plenty of picnic tables. A skinny cat bothered us the whole time we were here. The wait staff was friendly and helpful in helping with our selections. We chose to split a pulled pork sandwich which was very tasty. Sadly, it took a very,... More

It is very nice in Kalapana to visit the lava flows going from the end of the road onto the sea ending in a black (lava) sand beach. The village café offers nice seats outside. Food is fine, as is the service (friendly, not very feast). No complaints, had a nice meal, but not a special place to make a... More
