Couldn't be fresher

I've eaten here at least once on every trip (4 times now), never had a bad experience. Hearing about the lava flow I was worried they might disappear, luckily they they haven't budged. The atmosphere was always fun, eating on the strip mall sidewalk watching the people go by was great, many... read more

We had the huge fish and chips combos (mahi-mahi with shrimp) that was a LOT to eat. You get cole slaw and waffle fries (more fries than we could eat). There are a few tables inside and outside. This shop WAS right in the path of the June 27th lava flow (which has stopped) and they decided to stay put.... More

We were in Pahoa last week and wanted to see the destruction caused by the volcano and subsequent lava flows. This restaurant is in one of the shopping areas that has recently been closed albeit there are two establishments still open - this one and a Japanese restaurant. The National Guard also has staked out a space in this strip... More

This is an unassuming spot in a small local shopping center, but it has FRESHLY CAUGHT fish cooked right in front of you. Simple menu but you can choose the type of fish you want from the current catch. Inexpensive but priceless, if you are a fish lover.

Well, I had expected a handmade beer batter but it was not. Batter is light and not greasy, but the shape and the evenness of the deep fried pieces remind me of industrial production, not craftsmanship. Fish is fresh and waffles are great. Service is low, especially around lunch time. Usually, one orders to go. There are some tables inside... More

Pahoa Fresh Fish is a simple joint, but don't judge a book by its cover. This place has fresh, onolicous fish that is mouth watering, can't-put-it-down good. The portions are big and worth the wait when they are busy. It's obvious why the locals flock here, so check it out.

This is a true hole in the wall. The store front sign could easily be missed if one didn't look carefully. It's just located in this not so impressive strip mall. However, this place does fry up some delicious fish, shrimp and chips. The fish were these big thick beautiful pieces of Mahi & the the shrimps were more like... More

This is the best in Hawaiian fresh fish--fried to perfection in the magical mysterious fish-frying machine way over against the wall. Huge portions! Fresh! The accompaniments are OK, the fries, the slaw, but the fish is the best I've ever had. They have a few decrepit tables and chairs, but we usually order ours "to go". We always go back... More
