Mostly local clientele, but the food is great and for the price – even better. Really friendly staff. We stopped in for breakfast and were pleasantly surprised at the menu. This diner is tucked away, just off Hwy 11 and it's worth finding if you’re in the neighborhood.

a very unassuming place with just about no atmosphere, but the food has been very good each time we have gone there. Order from the specials on the board and you won't be disappointed!

A nice lunch stop between Kona and Volcano, Hana Hou serves typical small town plate lunches with Hawaiian authenticity. The baked goods are particularly tasty and attractive. The restaurant is not fancy and the bathrooms are less than, but this is still a good choice.

My husband and I stopped here for lunch after reading great reviews. I am not a picky person and I enjoy down home, local type places but this is the only restaurant that disappointed me in 9 days spent in Hawaii. The young lady that waited on us (if you can even call it that) made no eye contact, stood... More

I love visiting the Hana Hou when I'm in town. The deserts are amazing and it's hard for me to choose between the coconut cream pie and the mac nut cream pie. Even thought I don't eat much sugar, I forget about that when I come here. The chicken salad with mango is my favorite dish.

My husband and I stopped here enroute to Volcanos National Park, and we were hoping for so much more after reading reviews on this website. Perhaps it was just an "off" day for the restaurant, but in our opinion the food was just bleh. Nothing to write home about. Just okay. We were hungry, and we filled up on the... More

This diner is like eating in your Aunt's kitchen in 1965. The food is hearty and good, with some wonderful healthy options. The desserts are just like mom used to make. Hana Hou is one of the few restaurants on this South Side of the Big Island, and we just enjoyed every bite.

The baked goods (turnovers) we got here for the next morning's breakfast were good. The meal we had left much to be desired. The lau lau plate was virtually flavorless. Wife enjoyed the loco moco and there was plenty of it.
