Comfort food with a full bar

Look, there are simply not a lot of choices when you are on the south shore of the Big Island. We drove a long way to get to Shaka, and it was like driving into the 1950s. They offer burgers, fish, and comfort food like Fried Chicken Breast (flattened) with gravy and mashed potatoes. We were served... read more

Have eaten here twice. Mostly ignored by staff. Food not so great. Cannot recommend. Travel on to Hana Hou or Punalu'u Bake Shop. Pack food if coming through in the evening. There is a grocery store in Na'alehu and a convenience store, too. Will happily do another review if I learn that the restaurant has made improvements as I like... More

The staff wasn't the friendliest, but it is the Southern Most Bar in America. If you are into that kind of thing, like I am, you have to stop grab a beer and a shot glass. We stopped after going to South Point on the way to Volcano National Park.

We were on our way home from Hilo, it was getting late, we were hungry. We've been driving past this place for many years, and on a whim decided to stop and grab a bite. Big mistake. No complaints about the "ambience" (local bar/dive) as there are lots of places like that on the island, but the experience starting going... More

We went to visit the Green Sand Beach and southern most tip of the U.S.(very near to each other) so we stopped by Shaka for lunch with a group of 6 of us. Waitress recommended their fish and chips so that's what we had and it was good. We sat outside and enjoyed beer and lunch. Service was good, mostly... More

I can only speak for the fish & chips, but it was delicious, the service was friendly and fast, and it was reasonably priced.

Decent food. A little overpriced in my mind. Biggest problem is that they only accept cash, and their "cash machine" doesn't always cooperate.

This is a bar with a bar atmosphere. The portions were large, but The food is overpriced and bland. There's not much else to say here, but I will continue so I can get this posted.

This Bar and Grill is a "must" stop either coming or going to the south point of the Big Island. Interesting place with local people eating and/or working at the restaurant. Service was prompt and cost was not outrageous for hamburgers and beer. The Loco Moco is a huge plate of food so be prepared to eat a lot. The... More

We stopped for a beer just to do it, but had lunch. Real locals place. One of us ordered Lau Lau, which was "interesting". The BLT was pretty good, but the place was not clean. Couldn't eat in the bar area because of smokers, so sat in a "closed" area and wiped mouse turds off the windowsill with a napkin.... More
