We were only in town for 1 night and Merriman's was closed which turned out to be really lucky for us. The food at this place was really great and our server was fabulous.

This restaurant in Waimea has gone through several name changes over the past decade. Red Water (the English meaning of Waimea) Cafe is not your average cafe. It is a full-service restaurant with great offerings of fish, meat, sushi and, really important, yummy desserts. The service is always outstanding. This is my favorite restaurant in Waimea.

With fourteen women on a tight schedule on our way to a concert, I was concerned about dinner at Redwater Café. I needn't have given it a thought. Our tables were ready and so was the waitress when we arrived. She even worked out a system for separate checks! We did not expect that. The food, which was fabulous, came... More

The tomatoe bisque was super bland however the ceasar salad was quite good. The neighboring party was incredibly loud and the echoey room we were in made it almost unbearable. We could have asked for re-seating but we had already done so to avoid a table situated even closer to the loud party and we felt we'd just deal with... More

We have visited Hawaii many times, and are generally resigned to mediocrity, especially in restaurants. Two locals recommended this spot to us, we checked the menu and figured that it would be okay. Well, we were more than pleasantly surprised by the very good meal we had. Fantastic seared ahi appetizer with a black pepper crust was perfect, and a... More

We found Red Water by accident and was impressed as soon as we walked in the door. The ambiance is welcoming and the wait staff friendly. We were seated in a quiet room but could still hear the live music. Happy hour was still in progress and we had a Cosmo with their signature rim. We ordered the wilted spinach... More

Our family of 5 wanted a nice dinner to celebrate our last night on the Big Island. Everyone always talks about Merriman's, but it is impossible to get in there. Red Water was recommended by our hotel and it ended up being beyond our expectations. Locally sourced food, prepared in a way that was gourmet but also comforting. We will... More

Stumbled into the Red Water Cafe just before lunch service stopped - it was a slow afternoon, but I was made to feel welcome. Sat at the bar and had great conversations with the bartender and a local gentleman. Wasn't expecting much from the food, but I was pleasantly impressed with the fresh fish sandwich (open face) and the soup.... More

This is sincerely THE best sushi ever eaten. And my husband has been to Thailand, Japan - you name it and he said so, too. The server we had was amazing, she loved the food they served and was quick to point out some of her favorites. We went on a Sunday night and didn't think we'd need reservations, but... More

Awesome creative selection of food here. The cocktails are excellent and I really like the bar. While it can get pricey, compare it to Merriman's where you will get slightly lower quality and less creative dishes, at a 35% higher cost.
