Went here on recommendation of brother-in-law and sister-in-law - they come here a lot when in Hawaii. The service was excellent. The waitress explained what some of the dishes are, whether or not they could be shared -- as cost is an issue for some people. We chose the soup and salad and... read more

This is Peter Merriman's first restaurant location in Hawaii, and it's still going strong. Everything I've had to eat there was just delicious, which is why I never miss a visit there on my trips to Hawaii. I love Waimea anyway, and stay with relatives in the area, but Merriman's alone makes it worthwhile to travel up from your lodgings.... More

This was one of the best meals I have ever had! The wok charred ahi - seared on the outside, sashimi on the inside - was amazing. It melted in my mouth. The hearts of palm puree underneath was surprisingly tasty. The service was impeccable. Our server, Sara, gave detailed descriptions that were right on. It was a birthday dinner,... More

This place is incredible. Went for lunch. The food is truly special. The attention to detail was evident all the way down to the homemade mustard for my burger, which I think was the best I ever had. Don't miss the chocolate purse.

Yes, this is Hawaiian cattle country. We had to try the beef tenderloin, and it was so tender. Fabulous! All the vegetables were grown locally. The tomato salad with blue cheese, fried capers was absolutely delicious. And we ended the evening with a coconut creme brûlée and Kona coffee of course. We were carefully taken care of by a delightful... More

Everything is top notch here. Waiters are well informed on the menu and very friendly. I got the mongchong which was super good. My husband had the mahi mahi. We also got a greens salad and it was amazing. The tomatoes had great flavor and the greens melted in your mouth. Only strange thing was the antics of one of... More

Visited here based on family recommendations. They have a very creative drink list. Wine selection was good and not badly priced. Our server was very knowledgable about the food and specials. She frequently checked to ensure we had all we needed. The prices are high but then again, what food is not expensive in Hawaii . Very diverse food listing... More

You can count on having good food and service at Merriman's. We do not dine there often though as it is so noisy and tables are packed into the space. If you like a mild fish, the monchong is very good, perhaps a tad overdone but still good especially with the sauce. Broccoli soup was excellent as it was made... More

Stopped by Merriman's for dinner based on recommendations from locals and we were not disappointed. As with most anything in Hawaii, Merriman's prices are high and not a place for a budget oriented dinner. We decided to try a couple of their specialty cocktails and found the only drawback was that they overshadowed the meal. The bartender is a master... More

Merriman's has a new lunch menu--and slightly modified offerings. I usually order thei pulled pork sandwich. Compared to a few months ago, the portion was puny and not very tasty. The pork had a lot of fat, and their were no sides, like potatoes or cole slaw. Very disappointing. For a pulled pork sandwich, I would recommend the Fish and... More
