We stopped here for breakfast and it was crowded with locals. Obviously a popular place. Breakfast was good and reasonably priced. I had the plain malasada which was delicious.

TwoMiddleAgers described the 'donuts' well. We stopped in around 10am on a Monday, just before a big crowd. There had to be a dozen people that all came from different directions just after we placed our order, and each one carried out a box of warm 'donuts'. We tried chocolate, apricot and apple fillings, they were all very tasty.

The best warm, soft, sugar coated donut ever! Fresh from the oven and stuffed with gooey filling. I had Bavarian cream, my sister had mango and while both were good, the mango was better because it fit our tropical setting better. Not much else on the menu appealed- just regular fast food greasy stuff... the "gift store" is pretty tiny... More

Tex had a location in Kailua-Kona that went belly up. This location is much bigger than Leonard's store in Waikiki, but not quite as busy. They offer a complete menu here but we only wanted to try their Malasadas. These were square, almost like a fat rectangle, and covered with sugar. The dough reminded me of an average cruller. They... This little out of the way drive Inn was recommended to us by many people, so on our road trip to Hilo we had to search out this Hawaiin gem. We weren't disappointed. The malasadas were fluffy and light filled with warm mango filling. The best!!

We enjoyed our malasadas and all of our food from Tex Drive In. I thought the place looked new or possible freshly painted. We came in the back door and then saw that there was a long line. It was worth the wait. All. Dry good and reasonable priced. I would definitely go back again. When I see locals eating... More

Enjoyed the food here. The lines can get long, so be prepared to wait if you go at peak hours. Good food and great malasadas. We went for both lunch and dinner. Quite busy at lunch when the tour buses stop by for some malasadas.

We always do a day trip to Honokaa for lunch at Tex drive in. The malasada is well worth the drive. They also have the normal bun and run foods including moco loco if you like it but we pass its an acquired taste. We decided to try the fish and chips. This was not a good idea, nice light... More

Malasadas is a Portuguese sweet bread that is in the shape of a rectangle....can be plain or have raspberry, mango, etc. fillings. The place the dough in a deep fryer for a short time but the malasadas are NOT greasy. They are to die for! The bakery in Na'alau has okay ones BUT not like here. Also, it is situated... More

Stopping here certainly won't help out your dieting, but those feelings of guilt will melt away after you bite into one of their warm and fresh malasadas. There are several choices of tasty fillings. I'll bet you can't have just one!
