It's worth a drive up to Tex's to get yourself a malasada or 12. They make them right there behind a window in a sparkling clean kitchen. The strawberry is so yummy. Everyone raves about the Bavarian cream. I didn't get any of the other food this trip but I have in the past and I remember it being good.... More

Actually read a few reviews saying how 'wonderful' the malasadas were so we both made a point of going there for a cuppa and to slam a couple of them down. BIt dissapointing. Probably plain would be OK, as similar to a doughy sugary donut, but the filling we had (tried two) were both cold, and quite sickly so ended... More

We were to Tex's Drive In on our last day on the Big Island it was about 50 minutes from where we were staying. It was definitely worth the drive the malasadas warm and made fresh to order. We also tried the pork platter with rice and macaroni salad and it was outstanding. This a place i would highly recommend... More

We had the Boston creme filled and chocolate creme filled versions. They were out of haupia (coconut)--which broke my heart. Let that be a lesson to you- don't come at 2 in the afternoon. Too bad it's in the middle of nowhere or we would have gone back for more. I also tried the loco moco as we hadn't had... More

We visit this place but the only reason I come is the malasadas because the service is just awful and not very friendly there were employees standing around and I was waiting for service and they just ignored me, but those pastries are just amazing

We were told by our hotel concierge to stop here for the malasadas on our way to Hilo from Kona. We had a bavarian cream, apple and raspberry-still warm and so good. We also grabbed a bag of the croutons based on a recommendation of a local guy who said he eats there just about every day. The regular meals... More

We stopped at this bakery for some malasadas (Portuiguese donuts) while on a tour. I had never heard of these and did not know what to expect but when I bit into the soft doughnut with the Bavarian cream filling I was enraptured. They are one of the most delicious sweet treats I have ever tasted. Probably not good for... More
