Best Thai in Hilo

I tried another Thai in Hilo--Sombats-- for convenience, and found it way below par. Even the Thai iced tea was weak there! Later I went to Chiang Mai with local friends and we all loved it. I agree with other reviewers that the Buddharama is great. On First Fridays they have a wonderful singer... read more

We were referred here by a local resident so we stopped in to have lunch. Their calamari appetizer was the best we have ever had! I had the Buddaha Rama sauce with chicken (coconut milk/peanut sauce/red curry) and my husband had the Ginger Ahi. Both were excellent! The plates are huge and we took 1/2 of our food back to... Enjoyed take out for a late picnic on our lanai after a long day of sight seeing and snorkeling in tide pools. Food was very good...just make sure you dine in or have your own paper products and silverware for take out or a picnic...or that each are eating your own. We were sharing many dishes and they did not... More

This was a great stop. Full bar, awesome food and wonderful staff. The peanut sauce was great. If you want a killer fresh app, can't go wrong with the summer rolls. All and all great place.

I got the green curry which was very good and always the safe one for me with my peanut allergy. My boyfriend got the pad thai which has peanut. This is fine as long as my food and his does not touch. I even told the waitress I had this allergy and she proceeded to put my bowl of rice... More

Living in Hilo, we have several choices for Thai...I prefer New Chiang Mai. Small, cute, local, decent service and GOOD, fresh food. The view of Kalakaua Park is charming.

This restaurant was a great find! It's just steps off the main drag in downtown Hilo on one of the side streets. Definitely worth looking up! The Shrimp Roll appetizer is great - rolled and cooked differently than usual with a great local pineapple based sweet and sour dipping sauce. For a main coarse, the Budda Red Curry with shrimp... Came in for late dinner. Place was half full. Orders were taken quickly. Orderd 10 dollar long rice salad with tofu (good portioned). And a yellow curry chicken with jasmin rice. We asked the curry to be very mild and the salad very spicy. However the curry was still to spicy for my wife. My salad was also very spicy... More

We fell in love with this place when we lived in Hilo several years ago. After we moved, we tried to find a suitable replacement on the mainland. We had elevated New Chiang Mai food to such a high pedestal, though, no other Thai restaurant ever seemed to quite compare. Close maybe, but just not the same. So we were... More

We have eaten Thai food all over the island. Overall this restaurant has the best food. The Shrimp Pad Thai is amazing! The appetizers are over priced however compared to the entrees so we didn't try any of them. The red curry was full of lots of different vegetables and spiced at medium very nicely. .
