Great Thai!

Sombat Thai isn't a fancy restaurant, but you soon forget that once you are seated. The service is beyond excellent - they have the hardest working and best waitresses you will find anywhere! Wow. An unexpected surprise of Thai goodness and deliciousness in the small town of Hilo. Food - 4 stars. Authenticity level is approximately 80% when compared to Thailand's local fare. Spice levels however are 100% genuine so take that into consideration when ordering your food. All the dishes we had were delicious, including Som Tum, Pad See Yeow, Chicken Satay... More

If you like Thai food and you are in Hilo...give this a try. Near the Hilo airport in a very small (bit of a challenge to find) strip mall just by the Hilo airport. Small space with only about 8 tables, but big on taste. Can't believe we had one of the best Thai food/flavours away from main land. Maybe... More

This is truly one of our favorite restaurants in Hilo and upon our return this year, we enjoyed having both lunch and dinner here. The location is a bit of a challenge to find but once inside and seated, you'll be glad you made the journey. Service is always prompt and attentive. We find the entre portions so large that... There is nothing flashy about this place. Just freshly prepared thai food, with very quick service and reasonably priced. What more can I say.

While this charming restaurant is in a less-than appealing strip shopping center, I found Sombat to be mostly the real thing and priced very reasonably. The curries were all fantastic but I will avoid the satay appetizer (its not a Thai dish anyways, but Indonesian) as the chicken had a seasoning which spoiled the taste. The pad thai noodles were... Excellent food and service. Portions are large and reasonably priced. Curry w/chicken had more chicken and veggies than any Thai curry dish I have ever had. Choice of Jasmine or brown rice at no upcharge. Sweet and sour just as good and not too sweet.Waitress was running (no exaggeration) and yet was cheerful and helpful. Located behind Ken's Pancake house.... More

Sent here by our B&B hostess and enjoyed our meal there. Like a lot of the restaurants in Hilo, it is located in a stip mall and looks very plain from the outside. But, the interior was cheerful and attractive. Service was very good and the food was great. We shared an order of the fresh rolls and they were... More

Our close relatives lived in Hilo so we trusted their recommendation. We were very impressed as it was some of the best Thai food we've ever had. The salad, Beef Mussaman and Pad Thai were fresh, delicious and plentiful. We even took leftovers back to our hotel and ate them cold!

Flavorful and delicious! Exceptionally good service and conveniently located. We had dinner here on the advice of the front desk at our hotel and I'm very pleased with the recommendation. The red curry is fantastic. Just enough spice to give it a bite. Super fresh ingredients. It just got better with each bite.
