An uninspiring exterior - and incredibly delicious, fresh thai food - amazingly spiced. Super friendly charming staff - definitely worth a stop by if you're in Hilo

I've been here four times. i'd say one third of the dishes have been really great...unique, nicely spiced and varied. but then some of the standard dishes have just been okay...like the Pad thai or Larb. So I would recommend going for the more unusual dishes. those seem to be the best here. go early or make a reservation if... More

It is understandable for someone to be upset after driving to a restaurant only to find out it is closed, but it is rude for a person to make a conclusion about a place they have never attended. No, Sombat's is not a restaurant just for the locals. In fact, MANY of Sombat's customers are tourists. This restaurant is open... More

This restaurants was not easy to find (especially the parking lot), it is not located in a fancy place, nor it has amazing decoration but they serve excellent meals there. We went for the pineapple fried rice and a green curry. Amazing!! This restaurant has entered my top 3 Thai restaurants and I have been to many around the world.... More

On a recent trip, we followed recommendations from tripadvisor reviewers, and we attempted to eat at Sombats. Unfortunately, they apparently close for the entire month of June. We discovered this after doing a kabooki dance to get into their driveway - it's hard to find the way in. When we finally found the secret path, we discovered a posted sign... More

Wanted to try this restaurant only to find that it is closed the WHOLE MONTH of June!!! That would have been nice to know ahead of time.

We were only in Hilo five days, and we made it to Sombat's twice - we would have returned more times but it's closed on Sundays and on Saturdays for dinner. The food was so delicious, and the high quality was very apparent. I will be thinking about those basil rolls with shrimp, soup with tofu, and green curry with... More

We were lucky to pick this place to have Thai food on our visit to Hilo. We ended up eating there 3 times within a week. And we did not have any issues with needing a reservation, neither at lunch or dinner. The food here is absolutely fantastic. Everything is freshly made with love. They will make it ridiculously hot... More

My experience with restaurants can get wild and woolly due to a severe shellfish allergy but the folks here took great care of me. The food was excellent. Tons of flavor. The wait staff were friendly and efficient. Really good food.

In Hilo, one doesn't expect a little take-out restaurant to require reservations, but here we are needing one. So we came back the next night and it was worth the effort.... Extremely well prepared Thai food, and yes, very, very fresh. The Basil Rolls ooze with fresh flavor. I had Green Curry---delicious, and my spouse had the Spicy Fried Rice... More
