We've visited the Big Island twice, and stayed in Hilo both times. It's been quite a few years since we were there, and this review is based on our experiences in 2004 and 2007, not 2014 (Tripadvisor wouldn't allow us to go back that far). The first time we were there, it was just my wife and myself. The food... More

Quick and friendly service, fresh tasting and "medium" was very spicy and flavorful in the pineapple curry. In an area of commercial type of buildings but don't let that stop you.

This was one of the more disappointing meals on the Big Island. It's a small restaurant with a bit of a strange seating design that doesn't really maximize seating space. We ordered spring rolls, Pad See You and Pineapple curry, thinking that would be a uniquely interesting Hawaiian dish. Unfortunately, the Pad See You was on the salty side, and... More

Like it hot? One of the better Thai restaurants in Hilo. Only about10 tables. Easy to find on highway 11.

Through the advice our our VRBO hosts and trip advisor contributors' comments, my husband and I were really looking forward to dining at Sombat's. However, we were a little disappointed with our food. I ordered the basic Phad Thai with pork and my husband ordered the eggplant curry dish with a 1+ for the level of heat for each. The... More

Sombat's is a small family run restaurant. Friendly service and delicious thai food. We had dinner there twice.

Perhaps one of our best thai meals ever. We went based on Tripadvisor's recommendation on our way from Kona to the Volcano. We were a bit afraid when we walked in as the location is a bit remote and in a mall complex. Surely enough, the place filled up quickly and the food did not disappoint in the least. "medium"... I ate here with my son and his fiance who is Thai. She is usually very critical of any Thai restaurant we try, but found Sombats to be very good. The service was excellent and the server even politely suggested that my son order his curry "medium" rather than "hot. He was right. The medium was still spicy enough to... More

We ate here our last night on the island, having burned out on fish. The staff were friendly and food came out quickly. I had some of the best Pad Thai ever. It was really incredibly good. My husband had pad ki mao. This dish is traditionally made with wide rice noodles and a heavenly sweetish sauce. My husband's pad... More

Two of us dined here the staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. And the food was incredible I had the shrimp pad Thai it was the best I've ever had. Beware even the medium is extremely spicy. The herbal tea is excellent also.
