Got there and had a pretty nice booth. Waitress came and asked if we wanted something to drink. I ordered a special avocado, cilantro margarita, (thinking it was two things I really like)Got it and it was not good! The waitress asked "How is it?" My response was "not good"! She just looked at me and said nothing and picked up... More

Hilo Bay Cafe is my absolute favorite Restaurant on the entire island. The Chef's creations are spot on. The Chicken Cesar Salad is the best presentation I have ever seen. Highly recommend.

Food reviewed: coconut limeade, hamachi and maguro, Bay Burger, fish sandwich, Grown Up Grilled Cheese. When we arrived at 1:45 on a Monday the restaurant was 1/2 full. You enter up a long flight of exterior stairs. There's an elevator available. The restaurant is a modern, slightly cold-feeling space. There was a big discussion between the hostess and a waitress... I was amazed to find this gem on the outskirts of downtown Hilo. Having moved into a new building a year ago, their new location on the water is exquisite--and so is their food. When I heard the word "cafe," I set my expectations low. Sorely was I mistaken to find this gem serving quality, fresh food that was worthy... More

The Buffet was deliciously , prepared by Chef Anderson. Hats off to Chef Anderson. Noe did a wonderful job working with my counterpart in Hilo. From table set-up to the end of the party. She replenished the buffet table, made sure her staff waiters were attentive to all our guests. She even packed the leftover for employees to take home,... More

First off, arrive early and go for a stroll through beautiful Lili'uokalani Gardens, a serene Japanese green space along the waterfront in Hilo. Then you are ready for a fresh and fairly innovative meal at the Hilo Bay Cafe. Local ingredients creatively prepared seem to be the order of the day.

HBC has the best location in Hilo, a city which could pretty much define the concept 'shabby chic'. We eat there whenever we are in town, and lunch is a great time to enjoy the view of the Bay. The food is simple, fresh, delicious, and affordable.

This restaurant is in a relatively new building perched about 20 feet above the ground probably due the generous exposure to Tsunamis that occasionally frequent Hilo Bay. It is neat, clean and modern. We have eaten here before and had a satisfactory experience. However, this time was different. The waitress was very pleasant and gave good service. But, when I... I don't care how hungry you are, you will never finish the breakfasts that come with (as a side) 2 colossal pancakes (that are a meal in themselves). Good food, friendly service, almost always a waiting line because its one of the best breakfasts in Hilo.

We were only in Hilo the night before our flight off the big island and we came here for dinner. It definitely seemed like the nicest spot in Hilo. Food was good and we were given a great seat by the water. Service could have been better.
