The review title is not intended to be derogatory. If you are in Hilo, and you want a well cooked meal, someplace where you will be comfortable, go to Don's Grill first. Meat and potatoes. Good sandwiches. Friendly - but very busy - servers. The best thing about Don's Grill is being able to see into the kitchen. So clean... more

During our recent trip to Hilo, we ate twice at Don's Grill. It seems to be a local place rather than a tourist place (it was a local that took us there). For around $10, at dinner you get sald or soup, roll, vegetable, entree, and a drink. Food was very good. more

I love this restaurant . . everyone is friendly, even when they're super slammed. They treat everyone well and with respect, right down to the children. Their goal is to make sure everyone is satisfied and they deliver. Personally, I love the BBQ ribs. My kids love eating their because the service is wonderful. more

Don's Grill is a little hard to find. It is near Big Island Candies. Doesn't look like much from outside but don't let that stop you. It does have a diner-type interior but good service and very good food at good prices. I tried their recommended Hamburger Steaks. Two delicious steaks stacked & covered with brown gravy and grilled onions.... more

We had heard about Dons for a while, but until our current trip, never had a chance to try it. Upon entering, you can tell its a local place and looking at the menu, it reminded me of an East Coast diner with lots of choices, enough to please anyone. We went to Don's on a hotel recommendation. It is nice place and inexpensive. Obviously a lot of locals enjoy eating there. Not my cup of tea really. Fried fat and meaty meats. When in Hilo go for the Thai. more

My wife's and my hotel owner/manager told us that he felt Don's Grill was the best place to eat in Hilo. I'm not sure that either of us would want to go that far, but when we went for dinner one evening, the food was tasty, the service friendly and efficient, and the ambiance of Don's as nice as any... more
