A simple restaurant with great food

We tried this place based on the reviews and we were very pleased. We also bought a bento box one morning and it was very cheap.

Food wasn't great, nor terrible. Overall we were happy with our meal and serving size, and for the price, we left satisfied.

I order the seafood combination plate. The food is tasty and fresh. I give it 4 stars because the seafood was deep fried and I feel it not quite healthy. The deep fried seafood Was crispy but didn't show the seafood flavor at all. Waste seafood! The salad was fresh and garlic fried rice was tasty. The price is high... More

The place looks a bit worse for wear. But go in anyway. Very friendly and helpful. Food cooked to order. My wife had the fish salad. I had the sautéed lamb. Excellent but simply prepared and presented. No alcohol. But nice big glasses of tasty iced tea. The meal hit the spot. We would definitely go back. Again, don't let... More

Excellent lunch special that included some local fish. This is small (tiny) restaurant and it appearance it doesn't look a clean place (but I don't mean is not a clean place). I was the last customer (the only way I could find easily a table), but the wait was rewarded with the food.

Wanted to try Puka Puka not friendly. Not accommodating for those with food allergies. Would not even give us the time of day to say what was prepared without wheat. If you are GF don't go here!

The Puka Puka Kitchen is a very small Hilo eatery. There are only 2-3 tables plus some counter space, so many people order food to go. The food was tasty and fresh. Service is friendly. But the back rooms where the restroom is located are pretty rough. Still we enjoyed our meal close to the marketplace.

Small place in the historic district. Food was prepared and served quickly by a friendly waitress. We ordered the Special which was a Katsu Burger and the Katsu Curry plate lunch. There are pre-prepared meals which many locals came in for. Seems that there is a different selection each day. We bought a Spam musubi to go. Restroom is in... More

Even though we were the last customers for the day (arrived just before 8pm...restaurant closed at 8:30) the food was EXCELLENT! The staff was friendly and laid back. The server rightly convinced the husband to try the Ahi Don for dinner - I got the scallop plate special. The fish was cooked perfectly, with a fresh and crisp salad, and... More

We went here while in Hilo for a late dinner. The place is small, but the people are very friendly. We ordered a salad (small) and a special of the day (ahi tuna and scallop bento). The portion sizes were enormous and the salad dressing was delicious. My wife couldn't stop eating it! The ahi tuna was well flavoured and... More
