This is my all-time favorite bento place. The ready-to-go bento come in a few sizes and are ready at 9:30 a.m, I like the large bento with meatball, salmon, chicken katsu, egg, and stir fried vegetables. My husband like the unagi bento and my son loves the small chicken katsu bento. It costs a little more than other bento places,... More

Sort of a 'Mom and Pop; hole in the wall' restaurant with great food, great value (by Hawaii standards), very friendly staff; we were totally satisfied.

When visiting somewhere new, we try to visit as many local places as possible, and hardly ever will make an effort to come back to the same place twice. We came back to Puka Puka 3 times in a week and a half. This is local Hawaiian food at its best. A tiny place, not at all fancy, but don't... More

Puka Puka is a little eatery with only around 6 tables and you might have to wait for a table but the food was so good. We had lamb pitas and they were yummy. The waitress was so friendly and very attentive to everyone that came in. A nice friendly place to eat.

We asked a local where to eat and they recommended Puka Puka Kitchen. It is a tiny little "whole-in-the-wall" kind of place. Only has 6 or so tables and a small counter along the front window. We had to wait for 20 minutes for a table to open. But oh boy, the food was awesome! We were very pleasantly surprised!... More

The joint is small, but the flavors are big. I had lamb (yummy) and my husband had ahi (the best fish he had in our 2 weeks in Hawaii). The garlic rice is good, but it was a touch oily. Still, I highly recommend this place!

Tiny restaurant serving a lot of locals on the main drag downtown. One local offered to share his table with us and recommended the mahi-mahi. I had that and the DW had kalua pork. Both ery good and large servings.

We stopped here for lunch and watched all the cruise folks wonder the town. We ordered the pita sandwiches which were very tasty and good side salad. The price was very reasonable. The staff was very efficient. Yes it was a bit cramped but we still had a very pleasant experience. If you are interested in their specials, it sounds... More

Yes it is small hole in the wall. But of a small place it has great food I had the ahi don and my wife had bbq chicken. Plates came with toss salad and the great garilc rice. And yes it was worth the wait for a table. Yes you must come early for the bento and yes can carry... More

In the midst of our 2 week vacation, we were getting bored with the tourist cusine. This place was just like eating at home. I had falafel...perfect. My husband had chicken and nearly licked his plate clean. We are considering staying in Hilo on our next trip just so we can eat here more frequently. It was also our least... More
