Oishi Japanese food. Hamachi kama is a must. Tempura is delicate and crunchy. Steak was cooked to perfection. Overall a 10 with all the side compliments. Easy to find. Reservations recommended.

Near Big Island Candies, family style Japanese with something for everyone. Serving sizes are large, prices reasonable, $14 for bento lunch that had miso soup, shrimp/vegetable tempura and choice of 2 other entrees (sesame chicken, katsu, teriyaki, tofu and $2 more for seafood - fried scallops etc). Donburi good.

We got invited to a dinner there by a friend who lives in Hilo. The restaurant is in one building a nondescript warehouse-type twin buildings with a parking lot in between. Very pleasant decor inside with friendly service but, really, I don't go for ambiance, I go for flavor. The menu has a good variety of items to choose from... More

I have dined at Miyo's several times in their current "new" location. The food is consistently good. Make reservations to ensure you can get in. The value is excellent for the amount of food you get. Everything I have ever eaten here is delicious. It's BYOB. Last time I tried the seafood yosenabe and I really enjoyed it. I have... More

Another favorite of mine in Hilo. I miss the old location but this one is easier to find if you're new to Hilo. Quintessential "Local-Japanese" food (more "Japanese comfort food" than traditional Japanese cuisine), service can be a bit slow but hey, it's usually packed and it's good. Try any combination plate with the tempura which is always excellent. Reservations... More

On all my visits to Hilo, I make sure I take in the Miyos cuisine at least twice or more, becuase they always have specials for the day, and you can never go wrong with any of their items. My favorites are the dinner plates especially the ones that are served with a heaping stack of their fresh salad, so... More

You should make reservations to be sure that you won't have to wait to get a seat. The food is great, the prices are reasonable, and the selection is varied, with Japanese food the specialty. We take visitors here and just celebrated a retirement with a delicious dinner. It is always busy, but the service is good and you will... More

Came back for a visit to Hilo and revisit ed Miyos. I've enjoyed the foid in the past. This time, we were able to make reservations. The line out the door for dinner, was long. We were sweating during our meal making it unpleasant. No AC and the fans did not do a thing to cool things down. It, was... More

The food is really good, down to earth Japanese comfort food. It is always busy there but the food is always good and the service is fast.
