We arrived at Hilo airport on our way to Volcano and asked for recommendations from the information desk and the rental car desk. They sent us to a local hawaiian restaurant, but it was closed. Fortunately, Miyo's was in the same shopping center and was open (closes at 8:30, which I thought was a little early). There were 6 of... More

I love this restaurant for its fresh salads and tasty food. You can make your own two combination dinner plate even though it's not mentioned on the menu. I had the tempura and chicken katsu, which comes with two shrimp and assorted veggies, salad, miso soup, rice and chicken katsu. The katsu was nicely cooked, not greasy and not fatty.... More

Miyo's has moved into a wonderful new location. Same top quality, fresh food. Consistently everyday and a great value. Fresh, fresh, fresh. Great friendly service even when busy. Make a reservation esp. for 3 or more people. I have traveled the world and the 7 seas. Miyo's...no ka 'oi

We ate there twice while in Hilo, and the second time had with us family who had lived in Japan for up to 5 years. They LOVED the place and the food. This is not a fancy restaurant. The place is full of local families who know the wait staff by name. Just good Japanese style food and lots of... More

Our foursome ate here on a Thursday night and had a reservation for 6:30. We were visiting from California, our friends are natives. The menu is varied and the food is delicious - fresh ingredients, perfectly prepared, wonderful variety. This includes bento boxes, grilled fish, tempura, salads. They do not serve liquor but fine to BYO, no corkage fee. They... More

There are not many very good restaurants in the Hilo area. I grew up in San Francisco where great restaurants can be identified by the long line in front. This is one of those restaurants where there is a line in front waiting to get in. This from a city where it seems more than half of the restaurants are... More

Sadly, this used to be one of my favorite restaurants. I was always prepared for the questionable service and waiting times, however tonight was the last straw. My date ordered the fried scallops and when the waiter failed to ask him what side he would like with his entree, I questioned him. The waiter said he was not sure and... More

This place is out of the way and has really great food but is very noisy when full. Make reservations. Overall a really great meal and great service.

Food was good tempura, sashime, sesame chicken. But waited half hour to be served. Nice decor. Casual n comfy. Got no tea like other diners. Not enough staff. Took long to get check. Won't come back for awhile .

We had lunch here and did not have to wait when we arrived about 11:30 am. My husband had sashimi and tempura combo plate; I had sesame chicken and tempura. Both came with miso soup, rice and salad. Salad was fresh and had a variety of items in it. Food was hot, delicious and more than we could eat --... More
