Ok food

Good service, food was average but just what we needed. Sushi was fresh as you would expect in Hawaii!

We went in September, there were only four people in my group. We ordered a few appetizers and dinner entrees. I order the mackerel and it was overcooked..pretty tough. We had a few beers and hot tea. Our bill with tip was over $270. I guess if the overall meal was exceptional, I wouldn't have minded but nothing we had... More

I only review this restaurant once every so often just to update Trippers, those folks who take the time to review establishments before spending their dollars on its offerings. If you are in the mood for good Japanese food, you won't be disappointed. I eat there at least once every week for business lunches and have been for the last... More

I'm a late-comer to appreciating Japanese food even though I've lived in Hawai`i all of my life. Restaurant Miwa is not pretentious - the menu ranges from comfort food like steaming hot iron pots of udon and chicken tofu to special occasion combinations of tempura and tonkatsu or teriyaki chicken. But the atmosphere is nice enough for a special occasion... More

As usual, the food at Miwas was terrific! Mary Ann and Shigeo and staff continue to serve quality meals. The tonkatsu teishoku I ate was very tasty!

I brought my daughter here to celebrate a special birthday as we were in Hilo on a brief family vacation. We must have gone on the wrong night-- there was a very large party and service was slow. I have been here before and was always very pleased with the meal and service. This time it seemed like we were... More

This one was a nice surprise. Great, but small, sushi bar with a sushi chef I was glad to have met. He has been there for a long time and understands the subtleties of what makes great sushi. Chef took the time to explain some of those differences and I enjoyed it very much. Small things make a huge difference... More

One of the best Sushi Bars I have eaten at. Excellent service and atmosphere. The Sushi chef was knowledgeable and friendly. The wait help courteous and accommodating. Prices reasonable and they have a full selection menu . My suggestion is to sit at Sushi counter great conversations and you can watch the chef in "action"

Wonderful food - traditional Japanese cuisine - always delivers what you expect. Get there early so you don't have to wait for a table. My favorite go-to place when I am in the mood for this food.
