I'm from Los Angeles, where there's a good Mexican restaurant around almost any corner, and I wouldn't go to Reuben's again. It reminded me of what one used to find in Mexican restaurants in the 60s. Boring, not very tasty. Atmosphere is relaxed, local and tourist, informal. more

Reuben's is located in downtown Hilo. I had their chicken enchiladas and my husband had their beef enchiladas. Both were served with rice and beans. We ordered chips and salsa and were expecting red salsa. It was the green salsa which was extremely hotter than normal to us. The food was served hot and service was good but I don't... more

Stopped here on a round-the-island drive and got exactly what we expected - good, solid food, well prepared. Their extensive menu covered all of the classics and both their margaritas and selection of tequila is outstanding. Our table of five had a variety of food ranging from beef to fish but the standout for me was the pork tamales. For... more

This great little Mexican restaurant is located right new to the Hilo Farmers Market. I'd recommend coming to Reubens and visiting the Farmers Market on the same day. (Wednesday and Saturdays I think) We ate here on Wednesday, Feb 4th. Our waitress was very friendly and wanted to make sure we enjoyed everything. The food was great tasting and HUGE... more

This place was okay. Our waitress seemed pretty irritated that she had to wait on us despite our cheery dispositions. The chips were really fried which didn't appeal to me. I ordered a chicken burrito which was okay but nothing to return for. But then came the pie. We saw that one of their desserts was a chocolate Haupia pie.... more

I'm from Southern California, where great Mexican food abounds. I didn't expect a lot from Reuben's, since Hilo isn't known for its fine cuisine. I ordered one steak taco, rice and beans, with a margarita. The service was friendly, it was noisy and casual. The crowd was a pleasant mix of what looked like recent transplants, locals, and tourists. The... more

If you're looking for a fun Barrio Fiesta, you've come to the right place. Reuben's captures the simplicity of a small village eatery where you can get a cold beer, a refreshing margarita or just a plain shot of tequila. It's down to earth, no frills, no drama --just like the food. The beans are divine, creamy and oh-so-good, what... more

We ate here on our way to the volcano area one day. The food was good. Parking is a little tough but there are a couple of public parking lots to look for where you can get lucky and find a spot, though you may end up walking a bit. Overall the food here was surprisingly good. I didn't expect... more
