Yes you can have sushi rolls here, but don't forget to include a tempura side order too. It's one of the better batters. It's light and crispy. There were two waitresses. One with an attitude only matched by her imaginary ego., the other one friendly and sweet. We were ignored and stared down by one, fortunately picked up by the... More

Ocean Sushi is a favorite treat. The trick is knowing the right combination. Personally, I like salty sweet and scrumptiousness. So I go for Ell and Ahi avocado dishes. Keep in mind at the moment two restraints are operating out of the same space. My advice is to look at both menus and mix and match them.

This restaurant was recommended to us by a couple of locals from Captain Cook and from friends who lived in the Hilo area. We were warned that it was a hole in the wall but the food was almost all you can eat. We googled it and found it was open from 12-2 and 5 - 9. We got to... More

The menu is huge, the decor is blah, the joint was busy at lunch, the prices are low, but most importantly, the sushi is bland. We saw others with non-sushi items -- maybe that would have been a better choice.

At dinner, ordered a large combo plate of sashimi, some rolls & Iniri. Very delicious & we were stuffed. Tea was nice & miso soup for a dollar was good. My Japanese wife was impressed. Flew out from Hilo a few days later & had lunch here before the flight & brought some take away too. Food was again great... More

I had a $10.00 gift certificate that I wanted to redeem. I live on the big island, and never tried this place. I ordered two chirashi special bowls to go. When I paid for it, the cashier wouldn't redeem the gift certificate because it was an old one. I told her that there is no expiration, so she went to... More

My boyfriend and I recently stayed in Hilo during our vacation and ate here twice. The ambiance is terrible - it looks dull inside. But the sushi is delicious and really cheap! We consistently spent under $20 for two of us to have a few rolls each - a lot of food for the money. The only other downside is... More

The rolls here are quite cheap (average $5). The waitresses had too many tables to cover so getting their attention was difficult. No liquor licence though like most Hilo restaurants you can byob. Some of our rolls were quite tasty, some were pretty bland kind of hit or miss. Though for the price it was all pretty good.

What was our go-to lunch place is now our must-to-avoid. The place is dirty and run down in every way, the service is sullen, indifferent and excruciatingly slow and the food quality and quantity has deteriorated remarkably. The "sushi rice" tastes like just plain white rice, no flavor at all, the raw fish (especially noticable in the nigiri) is warm... More

Truly a Hilo institution forever ! Portions are amazingly large !! Inexpensive !!! Fish is very good as expected 200yds from Hilo Bay, sashami yellow fin is awesome, tempura is super !!! My suggestion: order smaller than normal & if still hungry (ain't gonna happen) order some more !!! Its a bare-bones cafeteria-like hall, but please remember, it's food &... More
