Went back two days in a row

Small, friendly, unusual food. There are usually four small plates and four to five large plate items on the menu, some regular items they can't take off the menu because they are so popular (the brussels sprouts) and other changing items depending on what's available. Small menu offering great food. We ordered the Wild Boar fried rice, Tataki beef and vegetarian udon soup. All were perfectly cooked.

We stopped by for lunch, and were pleasantly surprised! The sashimi take on fish and chips was thoughtful, and they have great rice bowls. Highly recommended!

WOW. These guys took it up a few notches in Hilo! We had a great meal with a local flare - tired the smokey sashimi for the app, it was unreal. Entrees were the fried rice and the veggie noodle soup, both were delicious and presented well. Great wine list and local beers on tap to go with the meal.... More

We had seen the restaurant that had been here rated highly in our guidebook, so we made a reservation. Though it had changed hands it sounded too good not to try. There were 6 of us ranging from 11-69. They told us to order and food would come as it was prepared. We should share. All of the dishes were... More

There were three of us in our party and the menu that night looked so good, we ordered one of everything. To be fair, there were only 4 starters and 4 mains but we couldn't decide. There was something for every taste and each dish was different. The chef came out and had a word with us to see how... More

As a resident of Hilo, a new local eatery is always welcome. Probably the best thing about this small, intimate restaurant is that the menu each day is the result of the best fresh fish, meats and vegetables that the chef finds in our local markets each day. We have a fantastic selection of organic, local fresh produce available from... More

We went to Moon and Turtle because the owner/manager of our bed and breakfast (the Inn at Kulaniapia Falls 20 minutes outside Hilo) told us it was his wife's "favorite restaurant in Hilo." Based on our bad experience at another Hilo restaurant, and the otherwise slim pickings in this off-beat, funky town, we decided to give it a try. We... More

Perhaps the most interesting and tasty food we've had on the Big Island. Certainly a must for anyone who considers themselves a foodie. I think other reviewers have already mentioned my favorite dishes. Standouts include the sashimi with smoked shoyu and the roasted Brussels sprouts. But as others have mentioned the menu is small and changes daily. The space is... More

You may want to check and see whats on the menu before you go, as there are 4 appetizers and 4 main courses on the menu (which I imagine changes regularly). Our main course was simple and bland--a few fresh veggies chopped very fine, mixed with rice and pieces of wild pig sausage. Would have made a great side dish.... More
