A Pleasant Surprise

Ten of us descended on the Bamboo Restaurant in Hawi, Hawaii, for lunch. What a surprise! The place looks fairly small from the outside, but it is quite large. They have a nice gift shop which was nice to browse in while we waited to be seated. They have a small kids menu which suited our younger... read more

Such a cool restaurant, so unique. Great menu selections, amazing drinks that are delicious. All our entrees were delicious and staff was so friendly and outgoing. Made us feel like we were a local. Highly recommend this restaurant. Every time we come to Kona, we make sure we plan a dinner here! Defintely worth it. Prices are good too, not... More

We stopped at this restaurant on the way out of town and the food was good, but not fantastic. Hubby has the kaluha pork with waffle fries and cole slaw and I had the cheeseburger with the same sides. The waffle fries were hot and crispy. The cole slaw had a really good flavor - a vinegar base, not cream... More

This restaurant sits on the main drag of a small town called Hawi. It is in an old building and also houses a nice gift shop of Hawaiian items. The food is outstanding and the service is super. We always make at least a couple of visits when on the Big Island. We arrived a couple of minutes before closing... More

We were staying at the Mauna Kea and decided to take a trip up to the Bamboo Restaurant one evening for Dinner. This place has an old Hawaii vibe with live, local music (nice touch). We were seated immediately and the both the service and food far exceeded our expectations. It was a great evening out with an old Hawaiian... More

The restaurant is small, but don't be fooled, this place is definitely worth the drive. The drinks were out of this world - one in our group had a Mai Tai and Bamboo's version of Long Island Ice tea - which he pronounced was magnificent, I had a passion fruit Margarita that was superb and hubby had a lilikoi Mojito,... Yummy food when my friend and I went and excellent lilikoi drinks. Highly recommend except went back this last weekend at 3:30 on a Saturday and was closed so must be closed between lunch and dinner.

I can only comment on the drinks, but the lilikoi margarita was incredible! Bamboo makes its own lilikoi juice and the menus advertised that it was for sale. Sadly, they had issues with their bottler and no longer offer it.

Food was tasty, waitress provided excellent service, and the atmosphere was charming. There is a gallery upstairs and lots of items for purchase in the gift shop area. Nice jewelry, Aloha shirts, candles, books, and more!
