Been coming here for almost 10 years, once or twice a year when visiting the island. Food is consistently delicious and the portions are always generous. Great views as everyone notes.

The Coffee Shack is South of Kona and provides a killer view of Kealakekua Bay below while dining. It often has a wait for breakfast so be prepared to wait for a table. I've had both breakfast and lunch, but the breakfast is much better and I certainly enjoy the Portuguese sausage as the meat side. Lunches are OK, but... More

A friend took us there after snorkeling...We were really hungry. We got breakfast. The papaya with Iilokoi yogurt and toasted coconut. It also had eggs, a pastry and we ordered a side of luau bread cuz it sounded so good. Our friend ordered a sandwich. The meat was an inch or more thick. Looked great. The added bonus of the... The Coffee Shack was listed in the 2013 Lonely Planet Guide for Hawaii as notable for its view. We were staying just down the road so we decided to give it a try. There were a few problems. Firstly, the woman at the front of the restaurant seemed...angry? Definitely cranky, but kind of angry. She (angrily) took my name and... More

Stopped in for a snack and coffee, but the waitress was so nasty we decided just to grab some coffee and leave, forgoing the admittedly beautiful view from their lanai. While drinking their so-called kona coffee on the road, we all noticed how awful it was. It wasn't smooth at all. In fact, the only thing more bitter than their... More

Loved the setting and the food. However the staff seemed pretty angry (i was actually scared they might shout at us when my companion asked if her bread could be toasted- eek!) It's still a great place so i'd still recommend.

I live just down the road from this place and frequent it fairly often. One of our favorite places for breakfast. The French toast on their home made bread is an item not to be missed. And the local kona coffee is always delicious. When they're busy the service isn't the fastest, but that just gives you more time to... More

I guess if you go when they're not busy it's better, but we went towards the end of the lunch rush. After we got our food at the order window (like at McDonald's), we asked if we could sit at a table on the deck overlooking the valley. "we have no room for you" was the brusk reply. Excuse me,... Stopped here with my Mom to grab some lunch. We had the chicken salad sandwich and although it was good, there was enough chicken salad on one sandwich to make 4...very messy and wasteful. Service was very slow and they were steady but not real busy. I had a lizard that sat next to me on the railing and had... More
