Amazing food in a crazy setting

After reading all of the positive reviews on Yelp, we decided for an impromptu lunch stop. We were a bit hesitant walking up to the restaurant, as the building does not have the look of a 5 star place, but we wanted to see what all the rave was about. Not the most convenient place to get to but well worth the effort. The Lau Lau is the best in Hawaii with a constant stream of locals coming for take out. The prices are very low for what you get. The earlier you get there the better as this place often sells out before end of day as everything is... More

Lau Lau was terrific, never had anything like it. We love getting into the local scene and this is about as local as one can get. This place is loaded with people coming and going for take away. We asked the server how long they had been there, they could not come up with a date... just answered 'generations'. So,... More

We searched high and low for 10 days across the island for the best Lau Lau and this was it. We even got a few for takeout. Amazing.

I agree with the other reviewers about not letting the "ambiance" scare you off. Their laulaus are amazing. I took my whole family here and everyone loved it even the little ones. The family that runs this restaurant definitely live OHANA! Wonderful kind and friendly people and their food is terrific. You must try this place!

We found this restaurant based on a Fodor's guide recommendation last year, and I'm so glad we checked it out. On the outside, it looks trashy and the inside is nothing fancy, but the food is delicious! The lau lau (pork or chicken bundles, steamed in taro and ti leaves) are tender, juicy and flavorful, and the plate lunch is... More

Seriously, the best laulau I've ever had. Pick some up to-go and bring it to the beach! Very casual dining atmosphere if you eat in.

Our family of seven enjoyed the best authentic hawaiian food at Super J's! We loved the casual atmosphere, where you could talk with Janis & J from the table while they cooked. It was a learning experience for our kids about different cooking methods, and ingredients. It was nice seeing other family members helping, and my daughter enjoyed talking to... More

A great place to stop for lunch. Their Kalua Pork Cabbage and LauLau plate were very delicious. I have had many pork wrapped in taro leaves and these definitely are the best ever! They were on the Food Channel with Sunny Anderson. Check it out! Aloha.

I almost don't want to write this review for fear that tourists will really discover this place. What a find! You can easily miss it along the highway. Be sure sure order the lau lau plate lunch. It's a Hawaiian classic and one of the best foods you'll NEVER find at a classic tourist luau (but a staple at truly... More
