We had seen this restaurant in a travel guide and it received an impressive review, although it did mention it wasn't a place to go to for the atmosphere. We showed up and we were a bit hesitant and became more hesitant when we went inside. There were tables and chairs but many were pushed to the side. But once... More

Super J's is a cute little hole in the wall place that is owned and operated by two "aunties". They only sell lau lau (pork & chicken) and if order a full plate you get lomi salmon and mac salad with the lau lau. You can also order a mini plate of just 1 pc of lau lau and a... More

Super j's is an unassuming small house on the side of the Big Island beltway that serves up Hawaiian fare without any flare. The Laulau pork is unbelievably delicious, as was the Kalua pork. The fact that such food is served up without any pretense in someone's home makes for a truly hometown feel that can't be beat. The holes... More

Friendly hostess who volunteered explaining options, ordered the Laulau (pork in wrapped taro leaf), which tasted decent. Maybe that is how it typically tastes, but not sure why this place is rated #1 of 23; expected better. Small sit down area or take-out. Watch closing hours since it was 630 tonight so almost missed ordering since incorrectly assumed would close... More

The food is delicious, reasonably priced, and seems very authentic. The owner is extremely friendly and talked to our group throughout nearly the entire meal. Even the pickiest of our group loved the food. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because her place needs to be cleaned and tidied. The fridges of random containers of who... More

What an amazing place on Big Island!!! We missed it a couple of times actually as it looks like anything but a restaurant. Once we parked the car, we walked up to the entrance (more like a grilled doorway) and were greeted by the 2 immensely lovely ladies who run the place, in other words, the mum and her daughter!... Foodies that we are, we were looking for some authentic Hawaiian food. We didn't know what laulau was, but after reading reviews, we knew we had to stop here. A-mazing experience. Upon our approach, we thought it might be closed, or that we had the wrong place, but as soon as we walked in we were made to feel welcome... More

Read the reviews and made a point to stop and this little unassuming store/cafe is absolutely worth 5 stars! The plate lunch was one of the best I've ever had from any island and really is so cheap its amazing. The 2 tables inside you can eat at but really you should grab this and go down to the beach... Authentic. Delicious. Affordable. Easy to miss on the street because it's so unassuming, so keep looking. The pork lau lau is incredible, and a sweet little dog wanders around as you settle down. The owner is full of kindness -- and even feeds you in her house.

I went to this small hole in the wall, it's a house, and had the best laulau in the world! The owners are a hoot and know what they're doing. It's a local joint so you know it's good. Try the kulolo if they have it, it's different brown sugary taro, polenta like, dessert.
