We were passing by and fancied a coffee, so we pulled in on the off chance. The cakes looked good so we had one of those with our hot drinks. Everything was delicious, and good value, and I wish we'd had time to eat a meal there. The staff were very friendly and gave us local information too.

If you are driving from Kona to South Pointe, or Volcano National Park or any point west, plan for this to be one of your meal stops. It is very small, but the bakery, food and drinks are unique and excellent! They had a great mix of menu items including the most amazing gluten free (which truly don't look like... More

This was our favourtie breakfast spot on The Big Island. It was a little far from our hotel but we still managed to eat there every morning. If you have any food allergies you will think you've died and gone to heaven once you step foot into this restaurant. The gluten free pancakes are to die for! My husband who... More

We've enjoyed the gluten-free bagel sandwiches here THREE times in the past three days. So good! We've had the chicken salad, tuna salad and tuna melt. Today I had the ham sandwich with garlic cream cheese. Our sandwiches arrive loaded with organic ingredients: tomatoes, lettuces, sprouts and more. And the prices were great too! Yum.

We've come back several times for the delicious Acai bowls. Crunchy granola, all-fresh ingredients make this a great breakfast, lunch or snack! Friendly service and generous portions. We look forward to our next visit!

I have to say that I cannot comment on the food at the "Up Country Bakery & Cafe" but what I saw looked very good. We just went in for a morning coffee and cake which has to be recommended. The staff are friendly and it looks like a place where the locals visit to pick up lunches to take... More

We came for the gluten free scones, and ended up with a couple of veggie burritos on GF wraps, smothered in the green sauce. So good! And big enough to share or have as leftovers. We ate here at least 5 times in the month we stayed in Captain Cook. I understand they are working on a GF banana bread.... More

We read the reviews so made the trek with great antisipation. We are ok with funky and crunchy if the food is to die for but this was no better than Safeway. Yes, its health food, they are newage and think they make great food but sadly they are just average. Not worth driving out of your way. We ordered... More

I used to love this cafe, until they fired my two favourite staff/baristas - kat and mario i think - and when i visited kona again recently, the food was still good, but the coffee was so average (it used to be AMAZING, even my mom who never ever drinks coffee got hooked after one sip) and the girl behind... This marks my wife and my third visit to the Big Island of Hawaii. We happened to find this place on our first trip here nd have been hooked ever since. The banana bread isn't goo, it is great but be warned, you will forever be comparing all other banana bread to this place's products. Three kinds - original, chocolate... More

Mahalo for taking a moment to share your experience visiting our cafe and bakery! We are happy you love our banana bread. One of the secrets is that it is made with local apple bananas which are ripened to perfection which bring out all the natural sugars. Mahalo again and we hope to see you again on your next trip...
