BBQ at it's best!

Delicious with a fun atmosphere (outdoor picnic tables under tarps), and friendly faces! Have to eat here more than once each trip! Great size portions of sumptuous food!

Super tiny- easy to miss- actoss the street from Jama's Bakery. Basically a shack with a smoker in the driveway. Awesome pulled pork and ribs. Fresh squeezed lemonade is awesome! Coleslaw, salads, sandwiches, rice bowls- lots of options. Picnic tables available for dining on sight or takeout is available. Catering available as well. Highly recommend stopping on the way to... this guy makes good barbeque, but you have to tolerate his terrible attitude in order to get the food.

Great bbq! This place is not much to look at but that can be a good thing with bbq. It was a one man operation and he was really keeping busy. Service was a bit slow, but it was obvious he was working as fast as he could to juggle all his jobs. I had the pulled pork sandwich and... More

We've stopped in the last two days and it's been closed. I asked a police officer who was having lunch outside from da poke shack "is this the BBQ place?" He responded with a "yes, for some reason they've been closed." Oh well, maybe another trip....thought you should just be aware, it's hit or miss.

Look beyond the rickety shack and enjoy great BBQ. I had the brisket which was good but not great. My wife had the pulled pork which was amazing. The hot link sausage was good too, as was the beans. It is a little pricey though for a lunch.

This joint shares a parking lot with the new Da Poke Shack along the highway. I recommend getting one meal from Da Poke Shack and one from Big Jakes. He has small twists on BBQ that you won't find on the mainland. I love BBQ and found it to be quite good. It can be a few bucks more than... More

The BBQ here is AMAZING! The sauce is incredibly flavorful, and the meat has a delicious (but subtle) smoky taste. We were only on the Big Island for 4 days, but made a point to come back to Big Jake's a second time. My favorite was the pulled pork sandwich. My fiancé loved the ribs. We also tried the BBQ... Pulled pork and chicken was as good as what you'd find back in the States. That says a lot. Big Jakes does it right. A no frills place off the highway.

Pretty good Bbq. I am a Bbq person and I thought it was pretty good. I got the pulled chicken bowl and my daughter got the chicken plate... $20 bucks! I think it is pretty expensive for a road stop but hey they have to make a living off us tourist.
