We stopped at Jake's based on the recommendation of our condo owner. We had just snorkeled Cook's monument and were hungry as we drove up 111. We got pulled chicken, coleslaw, and beans. The BBQ sauce had an excellent flavor - spicy and sweet, just right. The coleslaw was very good and even had little yellow raisins (or currants?). The... More

This is not only the best BBQ on the island it is the best BBQ I have ever tasted and I consider myself a BBQ junkie. Lets start with the beans. Yes the beans are so good you will slap your mama. You will go back and slap her again after tasting the pulled pork. We will leave your mama... More

This is our 3rd year to visit the big island and Big Jake's is one of our favorite spots. The BBQ ribs are cooked perfectly and the pulled pork is one of the best we have had. Come hungry!

The food was excellent. The pork, beans, coleslaw were tasty and properly done. I appears it is all made inhouse. It is a BBQ shack, order from the window and sit out back on the picnic tables. You sit with gecko's and the odd chicken walking by. We found it hard to find, look for mile marker 106. Can be... More

If you want an authentic Hawaiian barbecue, this is the place to go. No frills or fuss, just good food! I had the pulled pork sandwich. It was smokey, moist with just the right amount of sauce. Perfection. My husband had the pork butt plate and, Ditto for him. We wanted the mango-berry cobbler for dessert but, alas, they ran... More

My husband and I, along with our brother and sister-in-law stopped here at the recommendation from the owner of one of the local coffee farms we visited in Captain Cook. Big Jake's is a shack on Highway 11 with a little sign out front; if you drive by it turn around and go back - it's a local hangout so... More

Big Jake's is a tiny roadside BBQ place on Hwy 11. The chicken was tender and juicy, with spicy cole slaw and beans as sides. The guy inside (Big Jake?) was funny and efficient and the servings were generous (4 of us shared two meals). Dining is outside on a shady lanai, with geckos frolicking on the trees.

My wife and I loved our lunch at Big Jakes. You will probably drive past it as it's hard to spot but you definitely need to turn around and go back. I had the Beef Brisket Sandwich and my wife had the Pulled Pork sandwich. Both came w/ beans and coleslaw. Lots of locals here for lunch. Makes sense as... More

Drive slowly or you will pass right by it like we did. Very good food - a little on the expensive side but we really enjoyed it. Their chili is excellent and my husband LOVED the tri-tip sandwich. We decided to splurge and have the lilikoi bread pudding and it was to die for. Don't expect fancy, but expect good... More

This isn't just the best BBQ in Captain Cook, on The Big Island, or even in Hawai'i. This is the best BBQ I've had west of Kansas City. Melting tender pulled pork with a tasty BBQ sauce that was island-esq without crossing that line into candy sweetness. Can't speak the ribs, they were still rolling on the smoker. The brisket...
