Good lunch stop

Stopped here on a whim, on way back from snorkeling. Very casual ( " pay when you are done"). Good food: paper plate, plastic cutlery, but good eating !

Big Jakes is in the small town of Captain Cook and is attached to a poke shack which is very convenient for groups, couples, etc who want the variety of cooked and uncooked food. I had a sampler platter which consisted of tri-tip, ribs, and the choice of pulled pork or chicken. Real high quality lean meat which was also... More

Got some pork bowl while I was at da poke shack. Delicious. Can be a bit of a wait. Worth it. Smoker out front so it's hard to miss.

Recommended to us by a friend. The pulled pork and the ribs were excellent. The coleslaw was very good...it had golden raisins in it that made it sweet. The server recommended the sampla platter. He said it was enough food to feed two people and he was right. we will go back and eat again before we leave.

Right on Highway 11 - in the Captain Cook area - good food...! Stop by for lunch. A small little building - be careful not to miss it as you drive by.

Great BBQ - I really enjoy their brisket, but the pulled pork is fantastic as well. We make this a destination on our travels of the Big Island each time we visit and our only disappointment is when they are closed (on two occasions we have come during "normal" business hours to find the restaurant closed that day - not... We were going to eat at the next-door Da Poke Shack, until we found out poke is raw fish. Decided to go with this BBQ shack in the same building, really glad we did. We all (3 of us) got the pulled pork sandwich platter. It is a one-man operation and he was very busy in the lunch hour, so... More

Delicious with a fun atmosphere (outdoor picnic tables under tarps), and friendly faces! Have to eat here more than once each trip! Great size portions of sumptuous food!

Super tiny- easy to miss- actoss the street from Jama's Bakery. Basically a shack with a smoker in the driveway. Awesome pulled pork and ribs. Fresh squeezed lemonade is awesome! Coleslaw, salads, sandwiches, rice bowls- lots of options. Picnic tables available for dining on sight or takeout is available. Catering available as well. Highly recommend stopping on the way to... this guy makes good barbeque, but you have to tolerate his terrible attitude in order to get the food.
