The Cavalryman Steakhouse is located on the grounds of historic Fort Sanders, established in July of 1866. In its heyday, the Fort Sanders Military Reservation protected the Overland and Lodgepole Creek emigrant routes, the Denver-Salt Lake City stage route, and the construction crews for the Union Pacific Railroad. Ruins of the fort’s powder keg are visible just southwest of the restaurant’s main building. The Cavalryman building was constructed in 1925 to serve as the clubhouse for the local country club. Just to the east, remnants of the nine-hole golf course can still be found.

Fine

Restaurant is locaed amid industrial development but set back from the road. Meal and service were good. Dinner for two - drinks, a ribeye and a sirloint, no dessert, the charge was ca. $65.

We LOVE the Calvaryman! The atmosphere is relaxing and service is great. Lexi has been our server for a long time and we request her by name when we make reservations. We are loyal customers and will be for years to come:)

I ordered the risotto with sliced chicken breast on top...the risotto was like some kind of instant rice and cheese sauce and the chicken was dry...I ate about three bites. This is not a true risotto as classic risotto is made with arborist rice and reduction of broth, a bit of cream and fresh grated parmesan cheese. Also I ordered... More

I've been looking for a good steak in wyoming for a while, which has been depressing. This is the west for crying out loud! But off the side of hwy 287 my wife and I found The Cavelrymen. Doesn't look like much on the outside, but once we entered the building we were greeted by the manager (Gina?) and taken... More

We ate here with a group on May 24. We were in town for the Laramie Kennel Club show and dinner at the Cavalryman is a tradition for the group. Also I went to school in Laramie and back in the day this was the place to go for very special occasions. Sadly, either my taste in eateries has really... More

Stopped for dinner in celebration of 40th wedding anniversary. Staff very good, good wine selection, great prime rib. The mushroom appetizer is the best ever tasted; US and/or international restaurants!

For the price, of the Mothers Day specials was bad. They did not give us salad, soup or bread. The desert was not included you paid for it. You got one free $1.00 mimosas. The owner came by our table and asked if everything was alright, was caught off guard. We ask for catupe and got small thing in cup.... More

Hotel staff recommended for a good steak and he was not wrong. Best steak I've had since Amarillo. So much food we could not eat it all so you got a lot for your money. Wine selection was the best part of dinner. Rustic look but exceptionally clean with efficient staff. Family atmosphere in restaurant but also had a large... More

Just a quick note to say that Georgia and I had a wonderful Valentine’s Day dinner at the Cav. The dinner was perfect, the Lobster was probably the best I have had in a VERY long time, perhaps since I lived in Boulder. The steak was done perfectly and the service left nothing to be desired. Everyone including the bartender... More
