Description: The Cavalryman Steakhouse is located on the grounds of historic Fort...
The Cavalryman Steakhouse is located on the grounds of historic Fort Sanders, established in July of 1866. In its heyday, the Fort Sanders Military Reservation protected the Overland and Lodgepole Creek emigrant routes, the Denver-Salt Lake City stage route, and the construction crews for the Union Pacific Railroad. Ruins of the fort’s powder keg are visible just southwest of the restaurant’s main building. The Cavalryman building was constructed in 1925 to serve as the clubhouse for the local country club. Just to the east, remnants of the nine-hole golf course can still be found.

Happy Valentine's Day

Just a quick note to say that Georgia and I had a wonderful Valentine’s Day dinner at the Cav. The dinner was perfect, the Lobster was probably the best I have had in a VERY long time, perhaps since I lived in Boulder. we stopped at the Cavalryman after traveling all day. Were greeted by a very friendly staff and seated right away. I had a very good steak with mashed sweet potatoes and vegetables. This is a good place to eat.

We have been to the many iterations of this restaurant through the years and he new owners finally got it right! The services was great and the food was very good with prices in all ranges. They wait staff and decor bring to life the history of this location. The inside was finally redone tastefully and warm. Gone is the... More

We had advance reservations at this establishment on a recent Saturday evening. This was a special occasion, since my parents were visiting me from out of state. When we arrived, we were promptly seated at a nice table in the main dining room. All the restaurant staff were extremely nice to us and made our visit to the Calvaryman Steakhouse... More

Thanks for trusting us with your important occasion! Our beef and bison is regional - from Wyoming, Montana and Colorado, only. In some cases, we can procure special steaks from local ranches as well. Glad you enjoyed it! The most important investment we've made as owners over the past year has been the kitchen infrastructure and business systems that allow... More

A short drive out of Laramie , we booked a tabel in advance, by email and were pleased when it was accepted within minutes. We arrived and were shown straight to our table, declining the opportunity and time ot have a drink in the bar. The restaurant is steeped in history and clearly a favourite with many locals, but knowing... More

At 9:00, we are still waiting for our food. We have now seen two tables be seated and get their food. The waitress kept assuring... More

The Cavalryman is located on the historic site of Fort Sanders just south of Laramie Wyoming on US Highway 287. This is a very pleasant location for a fine western style meal of beef, bison and/or seafood. The menu items are chef inspired by the western location and local lore. They offer several specials that change every few days. The... More
