Description: The Cavalryman Steakhouse is located on the grounds of historic Fort Sanders, established in July of 1866. In its heyday, the Fort Sanders Military Reservation protected the Overland and Lodgepole Creek emigrant routes, the Denver-Salt Lake City stage route, and the construction crews for the Union Pacific Railroad. Ruins of the fort’s powder keg are visible just southwest of the restaurant’s main building. The Cavalryman building was constructed in 1925 to serve as the clubhouse for the local country club. Just to the east, remnants of the nine-hole golf course can still be found.

everything tasted so good. I would say if you are going to drink pick wine over hard liquor, better value.

We dined at the Cavalryman on a Friday evening and it was moderately busy, but the noise level from the many families dining was comfortable. Service was great and the steaks were delicious, though I'd recommend ordering medium if you normally order medium rare. Believe the menu instructions! I thought the meal was a very good value and would definitely... More

Thty reopened recently, so we decided to try it out, after some type of remodel which was hard to notice. Should have gone anyplace else. Granted we did not have a steak as our last steaks were as so many restaurant steaks, pre cut to a weight and always very thin so hard to get much flavor. We both decided... More

After 20 some years of visiting Laramie we swung by the Cavalryman so that my husband could see what it was all about. We just wanted a quick drink and to take a look and the entire staff was more than kind and accommodating. Ken gave us the 25 cent tour and shared the local history of Ft. Sanders. We... More

We ate here on vacation about 15 years ago so decided to try it again. We have been on the road 3 weeks so we are getting a bit picky. The steak melts in your mouth!!!! Both our meals were so good and the margarita was the best I have had in a while!! Don't miss this place. Service was... More

After my cousin's graduation from U Wyoming, the 3 of us went to Calvryman, because I wanted bison. We were not disappointed. From the moment we entered we were well treated and had a fantastic dinner. The maitres' d greeted us and gave us a quick and dirty tour of the area, history and food, and the place. He recommended... More

I've dined at 'The Cav' in the past and felt that it was just so-so. Now, the restaurant is under new management (Ken) and the place is better than ever! Even the quality of the food seems to have improved. If you've tried it in the past and have been disappointed-- give it another shot. Hopefully you will be as... More

Loved this place! The waitress was wonderful. My daughter had a hair in her baked potato and they replaced it immediately. The hostess showed us pictures of the history of the place. The manager (owner?) came around to check on us. The atmosphere was GREAT! Especially if you love history! I was impressed!

My wife and I took our parents to the Cavalryman, hopefully for a nice dinner. We are not from this area but we took a chance. We were told the by the waitstaff person that the mushrooms and the soda bread are so good. Wrong on both accounts. Beats me how you ruin deep-fried mushrooms, but they were dried up... More

I'm a Laramie-ite, though have lived in Cheyenne for 13 years; upon returning to Laramie, I remembered the Cavalryman as a pleasant-atmosphere place. That was true in this visit last evening with my 87-year-old mother. It is decorated nicely, and the animal heads are Wyoming, which I love. The ambience is nice as well, lighting, etc. But as the only... More

We're very sorry that you had a poor experience. You're correct in that we didn't have our food consistency at an acceptable level during your visit. While we've been able to correct the ambiance, the menu, the pricing, and the food ingredient quality, we're now getting the systems in place to insure that our food is good every time. We'd... More
